Andy Lau Eagerly Anticipates Arrival of “Little Dragon Girl” in June 2012

Eager to become a father for a long time, Andy Lau (劉德華) tried many methods to have a child. At the age of 50, Andy finally attained this dream and excitedly announced that his wife, 45-year-old Carol Chu (朱麗倩), was over 4 months pregnant. Since Andy had lied about his marital status in the past, he hurt millions of fans’ hearts and was branded a “Heavenly King Liar.” To avoid further allegations about his personal life, Andy hinted that Carol was pregnant in November 2011. At a recent fan gathering, Andy voluntarily revealed that he was expecting a baby girl in June 2012.

Treating fans as if they were his family members, Andy was exposed to have secretly wed long-time girlfriend, Carol Chu, in Las Vegas in 2008. Andy’s worldwide fans were shocked and he was branded as a big liar. Immediately, Andy apologized on his blog, “I am ashamed that I was unable to tell your first of my commitment.”

At a Tuesday Lunar New Year gathering with his fans, Andy revealed, “The baby should be a girl.” Andy noted that he only shared this secret with his fans, who immediately congratulated him. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement. Andy gave out 2 lucky packets of $10 HKD to each one of his fans, spending an approximate total of $20,000 HKD. Andy also shared onset photos from his latest film, which was shot in Dubai, with his fans. Many young and old fans attended the gathering. Becoming a father soon, Andy hugged and kissed the young children present, displaying his loving paternal side.

Andy posted several Lunar New Year photos on his blog, upon which several fans leaked the “secret” that he was expecting a baby girl in June 2012.

After filming Return of the Condor Heroes <神鵰俠侶>, Andy Lau’s popularity exploded.  Apparently, Andy indeed possessed an affinity with “Little Dragon Girl,” since he will be having a baby girl in 2012, the Year of the Dragon. Although Andy will not be having a son to carry the Laus’ family name, his entire family were extremely joyous with the impending arrival of the baby.  Andy revealed that he hired a bodyguard to protect his pregnant wife.

In an interview, Andy stated that he spent the winter solstice with his family and poured tea for his parents for the Lunar New Year festivities. Asked whether he had hand-written his own calligraphy scrolls to decorate for the New Year, Andy said, “I did not write any calligraphy and did not stick any New Year scrolls at home this year.” Andy revealed that he distributed $100,000 HKD in lucky packets this year.

Jayne: Congratulations to Andy! After the fiasco of hiding his marital status, he is handling the impending birth of his baby daughter better this time. It is a happy milestone in his life that fans wish to share with him after all. Looking forward to seeing Andy’s “Little Dragon Girl.” Perhaps this nickname will stick to her for life!

In another decade, Andy Lau will become a 60 year old man, a senior citizen! Where did all the time go? Perhaps continuing to portray dashing romantic leads (especially in historical films) make us forget his age.

  1. I thought that Andy was going to have a boy?? I guess it is a girl now but regardless if it is a boy or girl, I am so happy for him. I am also glad that he is able to share his happiness this time instead of hiding it. He has learned from his past mistakes and I am VERY happy about that…. I am glad that he finally realizes that fans would be happy for him and supportive of him no matter what. Another big congrats to Andy and hope that he will share pictures of his baby when she is born…

Yea, time really flies. I remember when Andy played Yang Guo and how young he was back then.. Time really flies and I really miss the good old days and wish that Andy can be in another ancient series again.

    1. HeTieShou,
I thought the article might make you happy, since you like Andy.

“Time really flies and I really miss the good old days and wish that Andy can be in another ancient series again.”

Was “Return to the Condor Heroes” your favorite Andy series? I prefer Andy in films, playing the dashing hero instead.

      1. Contrary to popular opinion, I did not really like the story line of “Return to the Condor Heroes.” Yang Guo and Little Dragon Girl’s romance was a bit self-centered. Yang Guo’s character was a bit more gray, which was understandable and given the fact that he grew up in the secret hideaway with Little Dragon Girl and they only had each other, it is also understandable that their love was more “selfish” and disregarded other people around them.

I prefer “Legend of the Condor Heroes,” especially the romance between Kwok Jing and Wong Yung.

      2. Jayne,
Thanks for this detailed article of Andy. I have read other articles about this already but they weren’t as detailed. I have been a very long time fan of Andy and am glad that he is finally having a child of his own and is sharing the news with everyone.

Actually, ROCH was not my most favorite series of Andy but I do like it. I like Duke of Mt. Deer, Heir to the Throne is, THe other Side of the Horizon, Yang’s Saga and pretty much all of the Andy’s ancient series since I love ancient series.Andy can play a dashing hero in series too. But I know that once you make it onto the big screen then you don’t ever turn back unless you have to. I actually have not seen a single Chinese movie that I like regardless of who is in it and how big the production is. I guess I have always liked series….

      3. Jayne,
I also wanted to add that I agree with you and did not really like the story of ROCH either. It was way too centered around the love of YG and XLN that it become so boring and dull. I like other JY novels more. For example, I actually like The Sword Stained with Royal Blood even though it is one of JY’s least popular novels.

I also like the story of the Legend of the Condor Heroes more. However, I was not always crazy about the love story of Kwok Jing and Wong Yung. Wong Yung was a bit too controlling and I didn’t like that…

      4. HeTieShou,

Just got back from the trip. Sorry I don’t know any Andy Lau movie(s) except the Shaolin 2011 that I could recommmend to you. I was Barbara Yung fan. After her death, I did not watch any more series. Also I was too busy with school, works and now family. With 4 kids at home plus big kid (hubby), it is a handful LOL .. A only movie I could recommend is The Shaolin 2011. Andy is a good actor. He has not lost his touch at all (even I think he was a little old for that character). I just wondered is he really know kung fu or not. He seemed a little “not good with martial arts” :-). Jackie and Nic were good actors and very good martial art.

    2. HeTieShou,

I watched Andy Lau in “Return of the condor heroes” when I was in college years (80’s). I like him as Yang Guo role. I just watched the Shaolin 2011 movie 3 months ago (Andy, Nic and Jackie). His acting is still good but he is kind of litle old for that character :-). He is such a good actor and singer.

      1. Jenni,
I saw him in that role when I was little during my childhood years and always loved him that role. However, I did not like the story that much. I never really saw any of his movies since I don’t like any Chinese movies. I have tried to watch a number of them and did not like any of them so I sort of gave up. Would you recommend any of his movies??

      2. HeTieShou,
I recommend “Infernal Affairs 1” (無間道) if you have not already seen it. Andy Lau gives a very good performance and Tony Leung was stellar.

“Wait Till You’re Older” (童夢奇緣) stars Andy and Felix Wong (as his father).

You might also his newest movie with Deanie Ip, “A Simple Life” (桃姐). Andy won the Golden Horse Best Actor Award and Deanie always delivers powerful performances.

Many of Andy’s films are very commercial in nature (especially in the 1990s), maybe that is the reason why you did not like some of his films. However, he seems to be more careful about projects to film recently.

      3. Jayne,
Thanks for your recommendations! I really appreciate it and have heard good things about those movies. My friend recommended “Running out of Time” since she enjoyed it. However, I don’t like something just because others like it…

  2. I don’t think Andy has to carry the burden of carrying on the family name since he also has a younger brother. Maybe his brother has already fulfilled that duty so Andy is just as satisfied to have a girl. Yea, Andy really has fate with “dragon girl”…. I wonder if it was just a coincidence??

  3. YG can finally “meet” XLN after 3 decades of waiting, LOL

    1. Yea, but as father and daughter?? It feels as if she is more like Guo Xiang more than XLN…

  4. Great news1 I don’t care if it is a girl or a boy, as long as Andy and Carol are happy!
