Blooper Spotted In The First Episode Of “Men With No Shadows”

The TVB drama, Men With No Shadows《不速之約》, starring Raymond Lam (林峯), Bobby Au-Yeung (歐陽震華) and Tavia Yeung (楊怡) premiered last night.

Previously, the scene of Raymond’s character, Tai Fung , biting a red apple was accused of plagiarizing the Death God character, Shinigami Ryuk, from popular Japan manga series cum 2006 movie adaption of it, Death Note《死亡筆記》.

After watching the scene, netizens felt that only the concept of apples was similar but as they continued watching, they unexpectedly discovered a blooper in another scene.

The scene was about Bobby Au-Yeung’s character, Kong Tung Kin, who was driving a car when he suddenly landed into a car accident.

However, netizens spotted that the model of the cars before and after the accident were distinctively different and mocked that the television production budget was limited such that they couldn’t even afford to crash a brand new car.

Driving a brand new car but smashing an old car

Last night, the drama was portraying about how Bobby’s character was resurrected after the car accident.

Although the colors of both cars (before and after the accident) were white and the numbers of the license plates were similar, the differences in the models still couldn’t escape the shrewd eyes of those netizens, who highlighted of yet another oversight in the drama.

Some netizens asked everyone to turn a blind eye as television production budgets cannot be compared to those from the outside world (they meant Hollywood blockbuster films), finding an old car to crash was already considered good enough.

Raymond Lam’s biting of an apple: Pure coincidence?

As for whether “Men With No Shadows” was guilty of plagiarism, netizens felt that an apple could also symbolize the forbidden fruit of Eden which represents temptation and denotes a devil (In the Christian fable of Adam and Eve, the serpent who was interpreted to be a devil, Satan, tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge in Eden and everything changed forever as innocence was lost.)

Thus they felt that it was perfectly justifiable for Raymond, who was acting as a devil, to eat apples. The netizens also pointed out that it would be even more weird if Raymond were to eat bananas in the show instead.

On the other hand, some netizens also pointed out that the plot from “Men With No Shadows” was rather identical to TVB’s classic production, You Only Live Twice《飛越十八層》which starred Michael Miu (苗僑偉) and Jamie Chik (戚美珍) and shared similarities with the 1997 horror film, The Devil’s Advocate and the 1998 romantic/fantasy movie, Meet Joe Black.

  1. Hmm…maybe the reporter reads Jaynestars lol! The things like “Adam and Eve” and “Meet Joe Black” that @CY and @Funn Lim mentioned were all stated in the article! 😀

    1. Weird! We did talk abt bananas… if only the article added papaya, then for sure we got plagarised!! But yes, very interesting indeed. But I then realised aren’t we netizens?

Anyway those bloopers very normal. Seen too many to even be surprised by it. But it is really not the apple but the feel of it, does feel like Death Note BUT story is NOT Death note.

The Devil’s advocate? Ep 1 isn’t it so many ep 2 onwards is. Not sure. Will we see Tavia suddenly naked in a church covered in cuts? Or did I just remember another movie? Sigh too many devil movies. Anyway for me Ray as CS said is a Reaper, not devil. BUT the chinese word sounds like Demon.

      1. Haha, yes we did, Fox said it, seriously, are they reading Jaynestars 😛

I don’t think Tavia will be naked in a church, TV censorship and all, but if I remember correctly, there will be a church scene in the series where I think Bobby and Tavia are hiding from Ray.

  2. Whats new. I thought they always did that. Did people really think they would crash a brand new car? I’ve read that they always put a shell over a stunt car to do those scenes.

  3. Come on, its just a drama, i find this nitizen the complaints so unreasonable and pathetic, no reason why.

  4. it would be funny though if the devil constantly ate bananas just like a gorilla hahaha…

    1. Don’t you think production might be hampered by Ray’s constant need to go to the toilet if that is the case?

  5. “The netizens also pointed out that it would be even more weird if Raymond were to eat bananas in the show instead.”

Ok, the reporter is definitely reading Jaynestars.

  6. I had mentioned the similarity (apple and Ryuk) in Death Note in another forum. Haha!!! They are probably reading Jaynestars and other popular forums. LOL

  7. Off topic : Tavia’s nose is too long looking in the series! too much of attention was paid to her nose

    1. Yes, it’s like when someone has a big mole on their face or if they have a lazy eye. U know u shouldn’t stare but u can’t help it. It’s maddening and hypnotizing at the same time.

For example in episode 3, tavia was supposed to kiss power Chan on the cheek but air kissed him instead. It’s like she was afraid to crush her nose.

      1. Yeah maybe or could be she didn’t want to kiss him in the first place!!

      2. Pineapple,

If tavia is willing to kiss bobby on the lips, I’m sure she is willing to kiss Power on the cheek. It’s just that her nose won’t let her.

  8. I have seen quite a few bloopers on TV. For example someone comes out of their home with a bag and by the time she gets downstairs the bag is different. Can’t remember which drama that was. Or a dead person breathing even – which I found quite funny really.

This car thing is nothing new – frankly I didn’t expect TVB to sacrifice a brand new car for an accident scene. I’ve learnt to turn a blind eye to these things and not let it bother me. No big deal if you ask me.

  9. The series is quite boring so far. I have no idea who dreamt up all this hype. it is becoming obvious that tvb can’t execute this type of genre with the required level of zest and suspense. For the first time I find bobby annoying in a series also, but only cause his character does not fit and he seems to be miscast along with tavia.

    1. Actually I find the series refreshing b/c ray gets to be so naughty. 🙂
But in episode 5, I don’t like him being tamed by tavia. I’m so glad she’s meant for bobby.

Although why Dr. O liked her for so long, I’ll never understand. And now she suddenly likes him too b/c she found out he researched the allergy med just for her.
Dr. O, how about being a professional doctor dedicated to all patients, not just the ones u fancy.

      1. I’m with you here, everything is just too sudden, a minute b4, she said that she treated Toi Fung and Dr.O as best friends,a minute later, she wanted 2b with Dr.O, what if she found out that (assumingly) Toi Fung was a devil and did so much things for her (luckily in this one he had not really done anything yet, apart from being a little less naughty lol) ? She would marry both??? It’s like she just wanted a good man who would do things for her, not the one she loved.

      2. “Dr. O, how about being a professional doctor dedicated to all patients, not just the ones u fancy.”

I agree with you, josie. Why can’t he be a doctor who help Tavia out of the goodness of his heart instead of because he fancies her. So, if the one with the extreme allergy case is a man or an old lady, he won’t start the experiment?

I would rather he sees her suffering and out of compassion want to find a cure for her.

      3. “lthough why Dr. O liked her for so long, I’ll never understand. “

Maybe he’s turned on by her rashes. 😛

  10. A small blooper I spotted in either Episode 5 or 6: Raymond’s just bought Tavia a pair of pink and black high heels. She takes off the pair she’s wearing (plain black heels) and promptly puts on this new pair of shoes before going into the car and then home. In the following scene, she’s wearing the plain black heels, not the new pink and black heels.

This is, I think, another mistake: John Chiang’s secretary is called Felix (male name) – supposed to be Phyllis instead?

    1. The shoe thing in episode 4 may or may not be a blooper b/c she could’ve changed shoes so that toi fung wouldn’t misunderstand her feelings.
And maybe the secretary likes Felix the cat or Felix Wong .

But the blunder that annoyed me was the unprofessional doctor’s note bobby wrote for toi fung. What doctor would write “yours faithfully” and sign it “Dr. O”? Don’t care what his nickname is, a real doctor always signs full name, Dr. Omar Kong.

  11. Just watch episode 1. I hope Raymond reduce his apple intake in subsequent episode. Bite apple too frequently liao, it became tiresome.

  12. Raymond didn’t eat so many apples in later episodes after trying to be a human..

As for another blooper, it’s Tavia’s English name tag on her uniform.
