Charmaine Sheh Didn’t Like Darren Wang’s Remark About Her Age

Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) wasn’t very happy with Darren Wang (王大陸) when he added a little remark about her age.

Appearing together for the mainland Chinese reality show Not a Loner <看我的生活>, where Darren took Charmaine out for a day, the 45-year-old Hong Kong actress took a jab at the 29-year-old actor when he mentioned her age.

The duo were sitting together waiting for their milk tea order. Darren had plans to take Charmaine to an amusement park that day. Speaking about high drops in amusement park rides, Charmaine remarked that men are usually more daring to take on roller coasters. Darren added, “Maybe those who are older are more afraid of dying.”

Darren immediately regretted his outburst and started laughing. Charmaine glared at him and said, “Are you talking about me?” She moved one seat over and said, “I hated it when people talk about age!”

Darren tried to make things up by nervously saying, “It’s not about age. The both of us have to maintain the heart of a child. That’s the only way we can go and have fun.”

Charmaine laughed. “Alright then.”

The duo then changed subjects and talked about marriage. When Darren asked why Hong Kongers tend to get married at a later age, Charmaine immediately looked at the camera crew and said, “Where did you find this guy? All he knows how to do is make me mad!” Charmaine then pretended to leave, with Darren apologizing profusely as he ran after her.

Darren later turned on his sweet mouth and said, “Our birthdays are only a day apart, so you’re only a day older than me.”

  1. Lol..haha. I saw the clips on youtube. He was a bit blunt and 16 years younger. I guess he should know better that some women can be very sensitive about age esp unmarried ones. haha lol…..

True but that applies more to traditional women, but if you are more westernized then it should not be that big of a deal. Marriage does not guarantee anything… I personally would rather be single at an older age rather than older and divorced or whatever.

    1. @myxx LOL…haha True but some women don’t like to be reminded esp since she’s unmarried/single/no bf? It’s like dude you hit a nerve. haha

    2. @myxx
She is not that old. Who does not get old? Getting married young or by a certain age does not guarantee anything.

    3. @myxx True doesnt mean its ok to flippantly talk about. If you were an ugly person, would it be ok for others to keep bringing up how ugly you are?

    4. @myxx
i remember when i was a teen anything older than 19 is ancient. i recall when i was 18, my friend dated a 25 yo and i was like, why date someone so old??!!! then my other friend was like, geez he is older than us by 6 years!!!

even in my 20s i would still think people in their 30s as ancient. so 45 when you are 29 is very old.

even in my current age, your age is one thing but then looking like your age or older is even worse. and yes, looking like in you’re in your 30s or older is no spring chicken.

  2. Darren is straightforward (some say tactless, haha), but they get along pretty well that he actually went on Tmall live streaming to support Charmaine’s lipstick launch. He also opened up to Charmaine when asked about sensitive questions such as his relationship with his parents, so I guess they sorta develop elder sister – younger brother camaraderie.

  3. If you’ve been following “Im not a loner”, you can tell that Charmaine and Darren likes to bicker with each other. Her reaction in this episode towards Darren was just exaggerated to scare him. I don’t think Charmaine cared about him mentioning about her age. She openly talked about her own age in the first episode where she had dinner with Florence and Bobby. Her birthdate is already visible online and everyone knows anyways. She would care less to be honest. Just my opinion.

i think she was just trying not to get mad and held it in. imagine she actually got ticked off with a temper. show couldn’t go on and would be extremely awkward

Yeh but there are millions of things people are sensitive to. Age, beauty, comparisons, hairstyle, wealth, background, habits etr. Imagine having to remember to steer away from all of these in conversations. There wouldn’t be anything to talk about…

    2. @bennyjr
Not really as I am a woman but I do not care about age and never understood why women are like that. You can marry by a certain age but that does not guarantee anything.

      1. @hetieshou I would say (over here anyway), its not just a womans thing. Men equally are annoyed when you talk about their age. Im not sure why its such a “woman’s thing” in asia. Im pretty sure men also get upset, I remember Andy Lau was one.

  4. darren could probably take a lesson or two from japanese hosts. i recall at least one of them saying that every woman is a princess. i saw one episode that showed a top host dating a 60 yo. the woman was resist at first b/c of their 30 yo age difference. she was saying that he could be her grandson but after one day, her heart was slightly moved and felt she could fall in love with this dude. she was no ordinary woman but a famous actress when she was young.

  5. I don’t think Charmaine was genuinely mad. She makes a lot of quips to make it sound like he’s insulting her, which is just fun bantering for comedic and flirty effect. I think it does help him to see how offensive he can come across though, for those who might not see his comments in a careless way. But the way the two interacted, it was very humorous and cute. Legit brother and sisterly relationship

  6. I’m with Charmaine on this one. He should know better about bringing up that topic which isn’t funny but he should be respectable. Did he not know who he was with & just drop anything pertaining to marriage, being single & woman’s age. I’m sure there’s other interesting topics to talk about rather than leading to personal information. If that was me, I’d walk off & go on my own at that amusement park & have fun on my own, don’t need to be insulted that way in front of the camera. Did he meet up with some other group to conduct some other type of interview not okayed by her but for another, if so, shame on him. Why ruin a nice outing & just enjoy having fun without further intrusion to personal, private information, can do without it. One day if Darren doesn’t know it by now, those words will bite him in the butt as he gets older & he’ll remember his time with Charmaine. His time will come one day & hope he’ll remember. Just remember-be kind, be respectful, be healthy & be careful. Enjoy your day….at any age, make it special.
