Edison Chen Loses Endorsement Deal Due to Diva Behavior?
Evisu, a Japanese designer clothing company for denim jeans, prematurely terminated its exclusive contract with Edison Chen (陳冠希) recently, and stated that it would “never” work with Edison again.
After the outbreak of Edison’s sex photo scandal in early 2008, the former idol star announced his indefinite hiatus from the entertainment industry. He left Hong Kong for a quiet life in Vancouver, Canada, his hometown, but returned to the Chinese industry two years later with the release of his self-produced album, Confusion. His scandal made a lasting impact on Edison’s career, and he never regained his former popularity and celebrity status. To promote his recent works, Edison had to tour around small nightclubs throughout mainland China. Edison also failed to attract film offers and was only featured in two movies in the last four years.
Though blacklisted by the industry, Edison is supported by his own fashion business CLOT, which has several stores around Asia. In 2012, Edison struck an endorsement deal with Evisu – the 33-year-old had to lower his remuneration fee to $800,000 HKD in order to sign the exclusive two-year contract with the designer brand. Prior to his scandal in 2008, Edison used to earn at least $1.05 million HKD per endorsement.
Worsening Relations with Evisu
Due to work disagreements, Edison’s relationship with Evisu quickly soured. During a photo shoot planning, Edison insisted to use his own photographer and production company for the project. When Evisu denied his request, Edison refused to do the photo shoot. In March 2013, Evisu held an activity in Shanghai, but Edison – the brand’s main endorser – did not arrive to the event until an hour and a half later. A staff member at Evisu also revealed that Edison left the show before it officially ended.
The relationship of the two parties worsened further earlier this year. Evisu asked for Edison’s schedule to see if the star had time to attend a second event in May, but the star failed to confirm his schedule with Evisu. Citing work reasons, Edison said he would be in the United States in May, and that if he was to return to Hong Kong then, he would need to fly back in first class.
Edison also did not honor the terms of his contract and was secretly endorsing for another jeans brand in mainland China. Evisu finally had the last straw and prematurely terminated its contract with Edison, replacing him with Hong Kong singer Pakho Chau (周柏豪). Pakho was hired for $2.5 million HKD, three times Edison’s original price.

I think no one should be surprised about this, but what does surprise me is that this idiot still thinks he has “Diva” status…….The nude photos of his is in the past and I think it’s not jus those photos that killed his career………..It’s really his attitude and his overall character that makes people hate him more and more. Maybe at one time, his “bad-boy” character was doing him good, but now, he’s too old to be a “bad-boy”, so the only road for him now is down down down and down……..

Definitely a believable story. It will not be the first time too. I have not seem him humbled even when he had to apologise for the photo scandal. It is hard for a leopard to change it spots.

I just dont understand all these artistes, why behave like diva? You’re just another human, why make others life difficult. They’re definitely having attitute problem and ppl like this will make ppl dislike them. Serves him right as he deserves to be dropped off from the endorsement. There are many better artistes out there without diva attitute, he just want to kill his own career.

He should be lucky to receive business deals after the scandal years ago.
However, readers here shouldn’t keep on asking him to do porn instead. I am sure he is very good in porn looking at the number of female artiste who slept with him.As for his ‘tool’ , he certainly qualified based on some shots that leaked several years ago..lol

Everyone deserves a second chance, but looks like he blew what ever was left of him. for a big brand like Evisu to give him this break, you would think he would know this was a great stepping stone for him to try and work his way back to some form of status.
We shouldnt just blame him for the nude photographs as the girls were all very much in the know that they were taken. And its unfair to just put all the blame on him either. But to mess this opportunity up, its all about his ego and his non realisation that someone of his age is meant to be mature and respecting the brands and sponsors that he endorse, as without them, all people will ever remember him by those photographs.
I share your sentiments on this as well. Everyone makes mistake and Edison just like others in life deserve a second chance. However,it does not appear that Edison appreciates the opportunities he have been given. The way he handled the Evisu endorsement situation clearly showed his entitled and privileged attitude. I’m appalled that after everything that happened, Edison has failed to mature. Well, he made his bed and now he has to deal with the consequences. Good luck with finding other endorsement deals.
When the nude photo scandal first erupted, everyone felt that the women were the victims and placed all the blame on Edison. I do not agree. I am no fan of Edison pre-scandal or post-scandal. Objectively speaking, both Edison and the women are victims in the scandal. The women knew full well their photos were being taken. They all looked into the camera, posed and agreed to it. No one force them to take the pictures. Edison is to blame for being foolish, stupid and lacking discretion to bring his laptop into a store to be repaired. In the end, all involved in the photos had their reputation tarnished and career down the drain. It is unfortunate.

(1) Dude’s very foolish (and arrogant) for not appreciating and treasuring the only opportunity. His irresponsibility, sense of entitlement and bad-boy attitude (it’s tired and stale boy,you’re no longer young) will be his downfall.
(2) Agree, BOTH him and all those girls were victims. The real culprit is the IT dude who leaked the file.
= Girls were brainless in thinking those pictures were exclusively taken just for him.
= Edison was just plain stooopid for not thinking about what was on his laptop (still seems he hasn’t grown any more wiser or mature, for not realising he’s burning his only bridge).
Perhaps, if “pervert” Edison Chen weren’t such polar opposites of a “good” man, maybe the photos would not have been leaked in the first place? 🙂

What a joke. Being a celebrity is gift and they decided to make a fool out of themselves. Edison and the girls are public figures. They knew what they got themselves into when they hook up. They think money buys everything. They have no self respect. Take a good look at their family background. There are no victims here. Give them enough rope they’ll hang themselves. LOL!
