Gillian Chung Learns to Compromise for Husband, Michael Lai

Dating for a year, Gillian Chung (鍾欣潼) married her husband, Michael Lai (賴弘國), in May 2018 in an intimate wedding in Los Angeles. Because of their large network of friends and family in Hong Kong, the couple will also be hosting a local wedding banquet on December 20. With the date inching closer, Gillian has been working hard to lose weight and is even sharing her weight loss journey with fans online. Despite her busy schedule, Gillian is still busy working. Recently, she guest starred on an episode of Miss Beauty <Beauty小姐>, a variety show hosted by Barbie Hsu (徐熙媛) that discusses beauty and skincare topics.

Being a newlywed and deeply in love, Gillian could not help but share sweet details about the wedding and some tidbits of married life with Michael. Gillian admitted that when their relationship was first exposed, Michael’s background and life history were dug up. He endured a lot of negative press and his image plummeted. At the time, netizens even advised Gillian to be cautious of whom she meets. Because of the couple’s eight-year age gap, netizens were further convinced that the relationship would not work out.

However, Gillian defended her husband and shared that she is exceptionally touched by all of his sacrifices. “The first time I went skydiving, I was supposed to go by myself. He is afraid of heights, but when he heard that I would be flying in a small airplane, he decided to go skydiving with me. It was quite funny, but also very touching.”

Because of Michael’s sacrifices, Gillian revealed that she has also grown and matured a lot, and has learned to change her attitude and compromise. When the two would argue, she would take initiative to compromise to avoid unnecessary arguments that may hurt their relationship. She also became much more considerate of other people’s feelings. “He has said before that when I buy purses, I don’t look at the price first. I told him I don’t look at the price because I feel that I work hard for my money. But now, I would consider his feelings, so I wouldn’t buy expensive purses.”

  1. So they have been marrying each other continuously for over a year. Not a fan of this. Once signed marriage papers, there should be a celebration and that’s it!

  2. This is all for publicity.. makes me gag every time I see news about how ‘in love’ they are.
