Jennifer Yu Wins Best Actress at 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards

With the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards concluding on April 14, Jennifer Yu (余香凝) won Best Actress for her role in In Broad Daylight <白日之下>. However, her win was surrounded by controversy. Many netizens said Jennifer only won because of luck as the other four nominees were all lacking in seniority and talent. Tony Leung (梁朝偉) won Best Actor for the sixth time. Although it has been 19 years since Tony’s last win, some suggested he should announce he would no longer accepting awards anymore and will leave the opportunity for younger actors.

In Jennifer’s acceptance speech, she expressed dedicating the remainder of her life to become a better actress. After the awards show, she and David Chiang (姜大衞) and Rachel Leung (梁雍婷), winners of Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, attended a celebratory dinner in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Jennifer is grateful for her husband Tim Luk’s (陸政渡) unconditional support even though he does not really understand how the entertainment industry works. As Jennifer’s working hours are unstable, Tim has been left to take care of their son alone. As a result, Jennifer shared she does not plan on having more children.

As for her next filming project, Jennifer will star in a drama with Kenny Wong (黃德斌). The two main characters exchange bodies and Jennifer’s acting will be put to the test as she will have to transform herself into a “crude man.” As Jennifer has not filmed many dramas, fans are excited by the news.
