Joe Ma Returns to TVB; Repays Debt to Virginia Lok

Spending 18 years at TVB, Joe Ma (馬德鐘) ended his management contract and left the company at the beginning of 2012. Although it was announced that Joe aligned himself with Ricky Wong’s (王維基) City Telecom, Joe did not part ways with TVB for long. Rumored that he may need to repay debts owed to TVB executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲), Joe Ma’s return may happen quicker than before you started to miss him!

Joe Ma’s upcoming drama, Tiger Cubs <飛虎>, will be airing on TVB on June 24th. Back in Hong Kong to promote the new series, Joe considered filming with TVB once again. Asked if this may be a conflict of interests since he had already aligned himself with rival station, CTI, Joe explained that he signed with a management company that focused on the mainland China market. Without signing an exclusive contract with CTI, this allowed Joe to film with any television station of his choice.

“Miss Lok is My Savior!”

Although Joe Ma’s wife had publicly criticized Virginia Lok and TVB for their inhumane filming schedule, the women’s scuffle did not cause a rift in Joe’s friendship with Ms. Lok. In December 2011, Joe Ma became embroiled in scandalous molestation rumors with Rose Chan in Hengdian, China. Joe immediately turned to Ms. Lok for help to salvage his public image. Working her vast influence, Ms. Lok even convinced Rose’s martial arts sifu, Sin Kwok Lam, to attest that Joe had not forced himself upon Rose in any way.

Never forgetting that Ms. Lok saved him from possibly the worst scandal in his career, Joe Ma was full of gratitude. Joe said, “I have a great relationship with Ms. Lok! She is my savior and a good friend!”

Although he left TVB at the beginning of the year, Joe did not forget his roots. “I still possess fondness for TVB. I will allow my management agency to make the decision,” when asked whether he will be filming a TVB drama at the end of this year. Discussions were still taking place regarding the proposal.

Joe admitted that his only regret was that he had never won the TVB Best Actor Award. He felt that he was unable to explain to fans after being in the industry for 18 years.

Jayne: Joe Ma is back at TVB so soon! Did anyone have a chance to miss him?

I’m quite surprised by his realignment with TVB so soon! It almost comes across as if he cannot choose sides between CTI and TVB. Guess Ms. Lok may have worked her magical persuasive skills and TVB decided that they want Joe Ma back quickly!

  1. “Joe admitted that his only regret was that he had never won the TVB Best Actor Award. He felt that he was unable to explain to fans after being in the industry for 18 years.”

Simple. Ask 620. She is the reason. I would have wished TVB look to their own young bloods and pluck one better actor out and promote.

Well well well, seems like he has indeed put that negative news behind him.

    1. So I guess he never regretted cheating on his wife or continually flirting w/ other girls. I think that would be harder to explain to his fans than not getting the tv king award.

      1. Josie, after cheating on wife or flirting with girls, he has to explain to his wife instead of his fans :P.

    2. That was strictly a statement in reference to his career. I’m sure he has many regrets in his personal life but the interview wasn’t the time or place to bring that up.

  2. Maybe if Joe comes back, 620 might promise Joe the TVB Best Actor Award within these two years.

  3. I’m not a fan of Joe so doesn’t bother me if he did leave TVB

  4. There is no glory in winning that TVB best actor award. Why even bother?

    1. There is glory. You get more job opportunities.

    2. Plenty of glory. Wayne Lai is well respected.

I actually appreciate a lot of the TVB best actor awards.

Bobby, Louis Koo, Wayne Lai, Ha Yu .. to name a few.

  5. joe had everything to win best actor from his role in born rich even though he got overshadow by ray and gallen but joe still did a great job

  6. Though Joe Ma did not win the Best Actor award, I could see big improvements in his acting.

    1. I like him too..Happy to hear that he’s returning to tvb..

    2. I like Joe too so I’m quite excited to see him back and acting for his fans at TVB again!

  7. Joe had bad luck in 2005 for Maiden Vow. It was his best chance to win but because of the scandal, he lost. Maybe with a short leave, he finally can make the executives evaluate him again. Good luck to him.

  8. I think Joe had multiple performances that justified a best actor win. I don’t question his acting ability, what he needs more is fan support.

    1. That’s completely accurate. He’s been acting for 18 years now and deserves more fans and awards!

  9. nah he had a close shot in 2004 in “revolving doors of vengeance” but lost out. i always think he’s like the B grade version of Moses if that makes sense.

    1. I agree. I thought Joe and Kenix’s performances were worthy of Best Actor/Actress that year.

  10. None of Joe’s series were a big hit though. You need the role, script and timing. Perhaps he will have better roles and scripts second time around.

Joe excels in cop roles. Looking forward to Tiger.

  11. Well if you can work for CTI,TVB and China, why not?? he would just have to split his time between the 3. I am not a big fan of Joe but don’t hate him or anything, so it would nice to see him back at TVB.

  12. I think TVB needs more good actors and Joe is one, so, as long he is happy to return to the fold (of TVB) and if Miss Lok is equally happy then it’s really good news he’s decided to come back. I’d like to wish him all the best.

  13. I thin TVB is a better bet than CTI since TVB is already established but no one really knows what will happen with CTI.

I am glad Joe is back with TVB. He was starting to get good roles and his acting really improved.

  14. “I have a great relationship with Ms. Lok! She is my savior and a good friend!”

    😛

    1. Ms Lok is his savior in Rose Chan’s case, haha 😉

      1. i thought at the end of the scandal, more pictures were posted on how rose chan was enjoying herself too and joe ma didn’t really do anything other than get a little flirty with her. the pictures didn’t really show joe ma kissing her or anything.

ms. lok didn’t seem like she did much.

  15. I’ve always liked him! Watched most of his dramas since I was a kid. I’m glad he’s back, since almost all the good actors and actresses have gone to Mainland, like Charmaine Sheh and Steven Ma. I miss them!

    1. I’ve always liked watching Joe’s movie. Unlike other said his movie is okay. Joe can play in many role (Bad and good). I miss Joe, Steven Ma but not Charmaine. Never like her. Her acting was so so not perfect.

  16. His acting is good. but, he needs stays out of trouble then we can see him to win a TVB gold chocolate award.

  17. Hummm, maybe I’m the minority in thinking this way but I don’t think Joe is a great actor. I think he’s good but not great and definitely not best actor material. I also don’t find him all that handsome but I guess that’s a personal preference.

    1. How can you say like this? In fact, we should honor this coward like a god!

There are not many cowards from TVb who afraid not being able to use his salted pig hand to make fame for himself outside of Hong Kong.

My head holds high and my esteem flies high each time he appears in front of me!
