Raymond Lam’s Hong Kong Coliseum Concert; Unafraid Mavis Pan Would Ruin Event
Raymond Lam’s (林峯) Hong Kong Coliseum concert officially kicked off last night. Often accused of looking “chok,” Raymond appeared to be very receptive towards being described as being “chok.” At his concert, hats, towels, and other items were printed with the word, “chok” on them.
Often referred as “Chok Fung,” Raymond indicated that he has not been “chok” for several months. “‘Chok’ does not refer to a particular look; it is a form of self-confidence. With your support, then I have confidence. Together, let’s ‘chok’ the entire Hong Kong Coliseum!”
Fans Almost Touched Genitals
At the first performance in his three-session concert, Raymond sang and danced in earnest. While singing I’m Very Hurt <我很痛>, Raymond’s eyes moistened with tears and he said that he faced the most pressure this year.”The song title reflects my feelings. Many unhappy incidents occurred recently. At times, I do not know how to respond. Several days ago on this stage, I did not possess the same feelings as to how I felt the last two years.”
At this time, fans yelled that Raymond was lacking a girlfriend. Raymond said, “I know what I am lacking; it’s your applause! You guys made me stand up again!” The passionate fans were excited and eager to shake Raymond’s hand. Some fans reached up and grabbed Raymnd’s pants, almost touching “Little Raymond” in the process!
Guest Performances
At his third Hong Kong Coliseum concert, Raymond’s ex-girlfriend, Mavis Pan (潘霜霜) was not present. Raymond entered the venue while accompanied by a dozen dancers, rumored girlfriend, Rose Chan (陳嘉桓), and his doting manager, Virginia Lok (樂易玲). Raymond acted “chok” the entire night. Even guest performers, Grasshopper and Andy Hui (許志安), teased Raymond for being “chok.” Rose sat in the first row of seats to enjoy Raymond’s performance that night.
Raymond changed six outfits during his concert. When Raymond sang Loving You Forever <永遠愛著你> with Grasshopper, Calvin Choi (蔡一智) said, “I heard backstage that Raymond danced until the stage shook. I said that he danced until the stage became ‘chok.'” Andy Hui sang A Man’s Greatest Pain <男人最痛>. Andy humorously changed the lyrics to “A man’s greatest chok; Raymond Lam is the most chok type; Raymond is still reluctant to leave you; Raymond Lam lets go of the love….” Upon hearing the lyrics, Raymond bit back his laughter and continued to sing.
Denies Flirtatious Youth
Prior to his death, Dai Si Chung (戴思聰) wrote in his memoirs that his mentee, Raymond Lam, was already pursuing a girl when he was a teenager. Speaking with reporters after the concert, Raymond said, “Dai Si Chung was was my respected mentor. He has passed away and I do not want to talk about this topic. It is impossible; it did not happen. People close to me knew what type of person I was in my early teenage years. I did not date until I turned 18-years-old. When I was younger, I was extremely shy!”
Asked whether he was afraid that ex-girlfriend, Mavis Pan, would appear at his concert, Raymond said, “Honestly, I was not afraid. However, I had doubts. At the start of the concert, I said that all the people who were attending the concert were people who cared about me. I hope they came with a happy spirit to watch the concert!”

In Raymond’s situation now it looks like he has adapted with the word Chok in a good thing. If not he wouldn’t make the Chok song complete with MV and incorporate Chok into his concert tagline.

Agree with you on that “chok” has been overussed. Not sure it’s Raymond who overused the term Chok or it’s his company who made Raymond to carry out the term Chok frequently. With Ray always posing his “chok king” looks frequently to the media certainly made some people feeling nauseating. Why Ray has to end up posing “chok” always when he can just sing and perform decently like leo ku? leo Ku is one of the down to earth singer who I greatly respected, he doesn’t show off his “chok” intentionally and use his singing talent to attract fans.

I don’t think Ray was purposely looking Chok. He’s was just acting normal, but people just say that it’s the chok look that he’s doing. Ray was just doin whatever feelings the song gave him. Showing his expressions when singing. Don’t think that was chok. And chok isn’t used to describe a look. Read the lyrics to his song.

Beside saying he’s flirtation, Dai Si Chung also said Raymond did not keep his promise to Dai. Dai saw this as a regret.
In the book, Dai wrote that Raymond has once promised him that he will invite him to his first concert in Hong Kong Coliseum, but, Dai never received any invitation.
When asked about this, his younger daughter confirmed that this was true, but, she understand that Raymond was busy. Dai’s daughter also said that her father was afraid that his students will forget about him.

Ray never said he was a good/the perfect guy. It’s just TVB who always gave him all those good guy looks to act. He was just acting, not the real him. So don’t be so surprised or disgusted when he’s spotted by the reporters, being himself.

Like picture him on stage during a concert and he announces “You’ve helped me soooo much, I couldn’t have been here without your support, you mean the most to me…” these are the kinda things most singers say in concerts. And in this case, Bosco could have just politely declined to if he didn’t feel like it, instead of shooing Fox away like a fly.
Besides, I strongly believe Fox didn’t have any reason to lie (not saying that you are implying that she lied but just emphasizing that her encounterment is highly trustworthy) since she initially liked Bosco enough to approach him for a pic.

Fox had already gone into details that she bumped into Bosco at a carpark and asked for a photo together with him but the issue here was that Bosco did not declined politely but instead he shooed Fox away like she was a fly with no sincere apology like “Sorry I can’t” or anything, this can be really hurting to any fan who had supported him explicitly in the past.
If you are trying to point out that we shouldn’t believe what we read based on a statement alone, you are right however this isn’t just any statement from a tabloid or magazine, but rather it’s a statement from a factual person herself. What other evidence is needed? Bosco’s recount of the incident? If he was such a rude individual as claimed, I doubt he will ever admit it as this would be akin to a career suicide of admitting that he wasn’t as good as he wanted us to perceive to be.
I profess myself not to be an advocate of the non-judging breakfast club (think “Gossip Girl”) and the truth is no one is an advocate of a perfect judgment as well, telling people not to judge is akin to asking people not to practice favoritism. It’s really near to impossible.

One thing to make clear, I wasn’t alone this day in the carpark. There are 7-8 Bosco’s HK fans there. I waited until he took pix with all before requesting for a pix. He hasn’t go to his car yet so I dun think he was busy.
And same to Kate, I met her in the same carpark because I went to LOM promotion one in Tsuen Mun Plaza. Then, I saw her outside of HKC. In both times, she was nice and cute. If it’s her acting, she is a good actress 😛 because her eyes told me that she wanted to talk with the fans.

Reminds me of this incident that my friend told me! My friend went to Taiwan for a holiday and she loves “Xiao Zhu” Show Luo (羅志祥) so she deliberately went to his “Stage” shop to catch a glimpse of him, she was even prepared to buy an item from his shop (re: the items in his shop is damn expensive, so all of us thought she was crazy) and true to her luck, Show Luo was at the shop so she requested to snap a photo with him but he refused to and waved his hand in gesture to say no to my friend. So my friend was naturally heartbroken but she said that he was really handsome in real life lahs haha!
But this case of celebrities refusing to take pic with fans or taking photos only with a certain number of fans is apparently a common sight in Taiwan as they have an unwritten rule in their contract that they are not allowed to take a photo with fans outside of promotional activities like signing of albums as if they snap photos with fans outside of it, their album company will be at a loss since in this case, there will be lesser fans who will buy their albums just to meet them and snap a photo with them in person.
Haha anyway end of story is that I told my friend that she should have lied to him that she’s the president of his fan club in Singapore, see whether he will still refuse to take a photo with her lol! I know I’m mean! 😛

His acting use to be really good and natural, but recently, TVB has been using him and pushing him too much so that he has way too much to do and is so tired. He’s too tired and doesn’t have much time to spend on his acting now. I think after HOG or Moonlight, he got busier and busier and tireder and tireder. Poor him. I’m sure he’d act and sing well again like he use to if he had more rest and time to spend on everything he does.
i guess that is true, his acting in moonlight and HOG was good and i think now he has just change to much! Virginia Lok loves him and all but he still needs to improve a lot more.

@Jayne: You asked me for the details of the concert, and here is my comments:
– First, to the last days before the concert, EEG once again changed about 500 $HK480 tickets to $HK250 to take tickets for internal demand.
– In all the nites I watched, HKC is fulfilled about 98%. The asmosphere is high. Ppl seem enjoying it a lot. He did a lot of stuffs to get close to the fans, run to shake hands whenever he can.
– The rundown this year isn’t as good as last year. I feel it isn’t as special as last year. The concert this year seems to be short, or maybe I felt tat because it dun really have a lot of climax. Maybe the accident in 31st nite is the highest climax. A lot of blood can be seen. I judge him as a professional artist because after that, he dun say a word, still dance and dun change face. Ppl from far distance can’t know his hand was injured until the magazines wrote about it because he didn’t say anything after that during the concert time.
– The hairdo isn’t special. The outfits are quite good but also not special and outstanding. I guess they want to play safe this year.
– His vocal improved compared to last year. BTW, I still dun like his bad singing habit to put the micro too close to his mouth. Look like he is going to eat it.
– The light effect is quite nice, but still can do better :P.
– His talk after singing “I’m hurt” is emotional. A lot of ppl cried. I almost cried.
– I wished he dun sing 2 themesongs from EH and SL because he sang these songs too many times. In all 3 concerts.
– I like the LF system part. It’s cute. Funny how when it said “Do you want LF to be sexy”, ppl shouted louder than “Do you want LF to be dance” and “”Do you want LF to be chok”.
– I had good time of entertainment.
Tat’s all I can rmb about the concert until now. Besides the concert, I also met LF after the shows and in the airport.

@Fox: how were the special guests? I saw the guests rundown – it just seems weird he gets those artist because I don’t think he’s close with them? E.g. Andy Hui, Mag Lam??? Like she’s just a noob. Same company EEG but is he running out of ppl to invite is that why they put her on? His close to Charlene and Joey but Mag is just so random…. EEG FAIL
Grasshopper are cute. Their voices are so similar that I can’t know who is who. Susanna’s singing is great as usual.
As for Andy Hui, sorry to all Andy fans but he failed to convince me that he is a good singer. Maybe his voice isn’t my cup of tea.
Mag Lam’s voice is raw but quite good. Not too bad. I kinda like when she sang the TLB themesong. Mag is TVB – EEG so it isn’t a surprise for me to see her in the concert. Teeveebee and EEG we are talking about.
As for his relationships, lol, in fact I often feel surprised of his best friends. Like Gary Gao, I dunno they met when to be best friends.
I wonder why he dun invite Ben Chang to be a guest. Ben has just signed with Neway to be a singer and Ben is so close to him. Most of his fast songs composed by Ben (and CW), why dun invite Ben? I listened to CW, now want to listen to Ben.
And if he invited his brother to the stage to have a duet, the effect will be very good. Hehe, I like his brother. Such a cute boy.

I think which guests to invite is decided by the music company. I remember reading the a news that Hins Cheung want to invite his 2 bestfriends Ivana Wong and Kenny Kwan to be his guest stars in his first concert, but, his music company disallowed and insisted on him inviting Kay Tse who was the same company has him as guest. The news said he stood his ground. But, I think he relented a bit later because only Ivana became his guest, Kenny didn’t.
But, Kenny said there’s has never been plan for him to be a guest star in Hins concert, that Hins was just joking earlier.
I kinda believe in the first version more. Ivana and Kenny have always been known as Hins best friend in the industry. For his first concert, I think he would have like to invite both of them.
As for Grasshopper, Edmond So’s voice should be the easiest to differentiate. Calvin Choi and Remus Choi indeed have very similar voices that are hard to differentiate.
Aww.. I love it when singers invite their good friends onto stage to perform coz I love to see their interactions and see what good friends they are!!
That’s really sad to hear companies exploiting an artist’s own moment (concert) and taking bits out to cater for other singers for the benefit of the company (marketing purposes). Concerts are meant to be for them.. taking center stage, your own time, your own moment, why share the stage with someone you hardly know or associate with?
I guess the more famous you are, the more powerful you become and you would have a say in whatever guests you invite.
Eg. Joey Yung’s concert… besides her close friends Twins, she got Eason Chan, Hins Cheung, Hacken Lee, at17 …… all different companies and EEG had no problem with that. Really fun and really good to see talented singers from different companies come together to perform.
Guess Raymond is not up to that stage yet to be able to make decisions and choices like other singers and invite whoever they want yet.
If I rmb rite, he invited Miriam (for his first concert), Ron & Kate (for the second concert) by his own friendship card. For the other, Kelly is invited to the second concert because they are both spokenperson for Ernest Borel (the main sponsor for the concert); Joey, Ah Sa, Michael, Mag, Leo, Wong Cho Lam etc. maybe the companies (TVB & EEG)’s decision. As for Janice, I dun noe :P.
BTW, if they are not from the same companies, they won’t be appeared on the concert DVD, if any. Like Miriam, Janice, Kelly, you can’t see them in the concert DVD of his old concerts. I think Andy Hui’s part won’t be included as well.
But, the relationship in HK industry is quite mysterious. Someone we think tat dunno each other, actually are good friends. That’s why it’s hard to know who is invited, who is arranged.

Thanks so much for your first-hand account of Raymond’s concert performance! Sounds like you are a true loyal fan and attended all 3 sessions of his performance, as well as last year’s concert!
IMO, I think Raymond had more of a concert theme in the first two years of his concert, with the water and fire theme. This year’s concert seems to be too “chok” focused and was a bit dragged down by his earlier bed photo scandal with Mavis Pan.
Yes, with water and fire, it’s more special. This year is light so it isn’t as special as water and fire. All the concert used light, right?
This year dun focus on Chok but light. The light, if watch live, it’s beautiful. However on pix and clip, it won’t be that clear.
I dun attend many of oversea concerts 😛 of him. I only like to attend the HKC one because it’s the most special and longest. Going to a concert in HK for a HK singer is always better than any tour. Plus, I quite like HK (its style and its food). I have good shopping time in HK :). It’s entertaining.
P/S: I know a lot of ppl who just came to HK for the concert then come back. Compare to them, I dun dare to take the word ” true loyal fan” :P. I said ppl because there are a lot of men, not girls only. I also saw a lot of kids (8-14 years old) and oldies (60-90 years old).
