Raymond Lam’s July Concert Tickets Fail to Sell
TVB’s most promoted artist at the moment, Raymond Lam (林峯), will be holding a concert series for the third year in a row at Hong Kong Coliseum in late July. However, due to the bed photo scandal with ex-girlfriend, Mavis Pan (潘霜霜), many of Raymond’s young female fans’ hearts were injured. Since Raymond held concerts in the last two years, there was a lack of freshness. The lack of Raymond’s new hit songs did not help either. To-date, the sales for concert tickets have been lackluster. Although there were only ten days left prior to the start of Raymond’s concert, there were still many remaining tickets left in his three-session concert series.
Raymond’s music company, Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG), originally planned to hold a five-session concert series for Raymond, in order to supersede his four-session performance from last year. Prior to the concert tickets going on sale, Raymond’s bed photos with Mavis Pan were released. Although Raymond was prepared [for the backlash] and maintained the image of a man who was lovelorn and betrayed in love, his lies and lewd image hurt many young female fans. Despite playing the role of the victim in the scandal, the situation could not be saved.
A TVB insider revealed, “Initially TVB announced that Raymond will hold two concert performances. The sales trend was worse than projected. The remaining concert tickets could not sell. However, since TVB booked eight days [at the Hong Kong Coliseum], there is no way that they will only hold two concert performances. The only way was to add another day’s performance to the concert series. Internally, a lot of tickets have been blocked off and unable to be sold yet.”
To boost the lackluster concert sales, TVB ordered all of the company’s variety programs to feature Raymond on their shows to boost his popularity higher. On June 24th, Raymond appeared on Jade Solid Gold <勁歌金曲>. Within two weeks, on July 16th, he made another appearance on Jade Solid Gold. This completely violated the internal policy that each artist will have at most one appearance on Jade Solid Gold each month. Originally, TVB contracted artist, Alfred Hui’s (許廷鏗) song was intended to take the number one position on the program. In order to boost Raymond’s popularity, Alfred had to step aside and Raymond’s song took the top position instead!
The producer of variety program, <變身男女 Chok Chok Chok> originally intended to have “the angels” sing the ending theme song. To promote Raymond’s music, his new song Chok replaced the slot instead, allowing him to be visible on many platforms.

Jayne: It is difficult to prove whether Next’s claims that Raymond’s concert tickets are not selling are true. Even if Raymond’s concert ticket sales do not sell to full capacity, it is common practice at any concert for the organizer to hold a block of tickets and give it to insiders to fill the seats.

It must be a pain to blow the hair so high and add a curl to it. Personally I think Eason Chan wears the Elvis look the best as it matches it outlandish fashion sense and he is a singing legend just like Elvis.

I may not like how he looks, but credit must be given to Eason for being a very good singer. I’d rather he sings all the themesongs than any TVB actor at any day. But I rather not see him. Whatever his hairstyle, whatever he wears, he still looks like some dirty ham sap guy to me. Some say Goldfish dude.
I like Eason’s themesongs for TVB but I’ve never liked his own songs or his singing style and I most definitely do not want to look at him while he’s singing.
It sounds like there has been a significant backlash to Ray’s “scandal” which is baffling to me because of how “innocent” it was. If true, it clearly shows that he/TVB/EEG handled it badly. But frankly, while I like to hear him sing, his range has failed to impress me. I would not find it strange if the public has gotten tired of his songs too and that it really has little to do with his scandal.
I have seen and heard eason sing live. he can sing live but he doesn’t impress me with his performance. he doesn’t dance and he needs guest performers for 1.5 hr concert. Sometimes i just don’t like his attitude.

Not surprising. Not to mean his popularity has decreased. It’s just that his concerts are held too frequent and too close together. Every year has one concert. Not special anymore.
I agree with Kidd. I don’t know if his image was greatly impacted due to the Mavis photos and whether he lost fans as a result of that, but I wouldn’t go to someone’s concert every year. Like Kidd said, it’s not special anymore.

Not quite true. I know a whole bunch who goes to a singer’s concert every year and for example, if he stops at a location for 4 concert days, they attend 3 of those. You must understand, HK people are willing to spend.
I probably can’t even do it 3 years in a row for Jacky Cheung so there would be zero chhance I could for Raymond. However I have a feeling Raymond isn’t the only one pulling his strings to do this. Either way it sucks when no one comes to an event you as the face of has organised.
His tickets aren’t selling good, but after reading this person’s comments, I agree with him/her. This is what the person said:

This totally makes sense, so it’s not like his bad news is affecting him. Wait till he starts his world tour and you’ll see.
Raymond is not aging well. Usually, I think that a man gets more handsome as they get older, especially around their 30’s, but Raymond looks tired and haggard. Hope he gets more rest. Though I can’t say much about Raymond as a player, but he sure is a hard worker!
I think it’s a bad thing he works so much. Seriously? What ever happened to quality over quantity. The stuff he does now, is not as good to what he used to be. He should rest more, and then produce some good acting and signing. Though he is still a pretty good acting and signing…he should be better.
I don’t think Ray needs to look like this. He’s rich even without his father’s money, so I don’t think should waste his precious rest time doing commercials and ads for companies or be spokes person for companies. (Well he can have maybe 1 or 2) I’d rather he get enough rest and spend more time on his acting and singing career. He barely has time to prepare for his concert all the time. Also, he should stop clubing that much and that late at night if it’s his usual thing to do. The last news bout him said he was clubing at 3/4 am. Is he so use to not sleeping at night that he can’t fall asleep at night anymore? Anyways, he should use that precious time for rest.

His FC’s orders are cut tickets. The reason the company gave fans is: Too high internal demand so they have to cut fans’ tickets.

Next dun check HKC’s schedule? On 26 and 27 July HKC is busy with a show. On 4 and 5 Aug HKC also has show. It took 1 day gap between shows to change the format, then only can book HKC from 29 to 3, means max at 6 days. How can TVB booked 8 days?

I didn’t find anything in the song, that would drive away his fans. I didn’t like the dance for this song though. Prob cause it’s too hip hop, so that made me little disappointed.

If u just listen to the song and not watch the MV, te sing is quite catchy. Though the whole gangster(chinkster) thing he should of never even touch that. It’s too funnnyyy. Someone who dresses kinda gangsterly should keep that style but not Ray, gangster is not his look. He should keep the professional suit wear look and sing romantic songs.

yeah I was dissappointed about the hip hop dance and look. I didn’t like it at all. I liked his look when he was singing this song on JSG though. It looked much better, but of course, the dance still wasn’t good to me.

Kindly go and check the ticket sales before reporting. The whole 3 days $480 n $150 were all sold out and even $250 left limited number of tickets. Is this kind of sales bad?? Stupid brainless next reporter. FF ticket were being cut a lot and many people were unhappy.
Its hard to say who should be blamed for the ticket sales. Maybe a mixture of all kinds of reasons: photo scandal, his ex Mavis, concerts being held too frequently. I myself don’t reside in HK and have never even heard him sing in concert. The only time I did hear him sing was in drama serials.
I wonder how he sings live?? I also have only heard him in drama series and on CD only, but never live… If he can sing well live, then that shows that he is a pretty good singer…
I heard him sing live and though I being a fan, didn’t think it would be as good. Most HK singers are average these days. He actually surprised me, when he sang…actually hit the high notes.
You can find the fancam for his concerts on youtube. I heard him sang live few times and he shocked me. Better than I expected.
I love his live singing. It was very good from the beggining of his singing career (maybe even once he started singing TVB theme songs). But now that he works so hard, touches all 3: Movie, Drama, and Music, and has little rest time, his live isn’t as good as it use to be. He really needs some rest and exercise cause being able to sing live good dependds on rest and healthy life style.

In the CD, some of his older songs sound so emotionless. But his live singing has more emotion and power!

I am shocked that a singer can sing better live than on CD. Most of the singers usually sound better on CD since you have all of the help from the studio equipment and all. Even the veteran singers sound better on CD than singing live. I guess I need to watch some live clips to see how he really sounds singing live.

One thing I must agree with Judy is that Raymond is not ageing well, maybe due to the very high pressure of work as well as the photo scandal etc… He’s certainly a hard workder – at least no one can accuse him of being lazy!!

As far as provided in Urbtix’s order site, on 30 there are few single seats of $250 left, on 29 and 31 there are about 5% of $250 left. On all 3 days, $480 and $150 are sold out. So for 30 it’s like 99% and others nites 95%.
It’s the public sale, for not blocked seats which are taken by sponsors, companies (TVB + EEG) and fan club .
On 30 and 31, only 120 tickets of $480 of each nite are provided to the fans. About 5000 tickets are cut, including mine :(. The fans are forced to change to $250 or buy from other sources like AEG, Moov, Urbtix. The reason they gave out is: Too high internal demand.
So I don’t understand. If Next is right, the internal demand isn’t high, why they have to cut tickets from fans?
This time he opens a 4-sides one then actually the amount of tickets is higher than last years (3-sides). For each night, about 12k viewers. In total, 3 nites = 36k while last year 4 nites = 8kx4=32k. Then the sale is actually better than last years a lot.
From what I can see 95% capacity is great. So where is the low ticket sales?

At the concerts,It proved the news were right. About 70% tickets sales only. There are many fans followed her on Weibo, over 4 millions, but I guess they all young fans then uh? can’t afford to buy a tickets…. So has many fans not mean good …. Celebrities need rich fans 🙂

Yea, many fans can’t afford the concert tickets. I remember when Vivian Chow had a concert in the US, the most expensive tickets were $100 US dollars and the second level was $75 and so on… I thought that $100 was not too bad for the front row tickets while some may think that it was too expensive. It also depends on how much you are willing to spend on a particular artist/singer. You don’t necessarily have to be rich…
Hmmm there’s only about 4-5 HK singers i’d pay USD$100 for in the past and only 1 at most nowadays. That might change like say on a date 😛

I have a feeling that things said in this article may be true to some extent… Even though Raymond’s popularity was not heavily affected by the photo scandal, you have to admit that it did affect it at least a little… Since many fans may be young and innocent, the photo scandal did affect how they feel about Raymond.

A side note: I don’t know what’s the big deal about that bed photos. So he dated and they split. Isn’t that human nature? How can that dishearten fans? I think the bed photos were a big deal was because Raymond lied about dating anyone. He kept on saying that he was not dating and was too busy to date and then BOOM, the bed photos come out… Which showed that he was lying and he was not only dating, but was sleeping in the same bed with a girl. Also, Mavis is s**** and full of plastic which is not appealing to Ray’s image at all since fans would think he should have better taste than that.
I also believe that if you like an idol that much, then the type of person that they are does matter. Since the artist is not just displaying their talent only but they are supposed to be a good role model for your fans. Sadly, the photo scandal somewhat showed that he is not such a great role model afterall.. It is true that it is not wrong to date, but he was not honest about it and lied to his fans, therefore, he betrayed them so how can that not affect his image???
People will move on and it is actually good that they know more about the fact that artists are not just what they see in front of the screen and in public.. Many things can happen behind closed doors. But sadly, sort of like the Edison Chen scandal(of course not even half as bad), once the black mark is there, it will come back and haunt you one way or another from time to time.

Because his Prince Charming and Mr. Perfect image was ruined when he was seen to be dating someone like PSS, who apparently everyone thinks isn’t innocent and took advantage of his love to boost her popularity. I guess LF fans thought that if he dated anyone, it would be more of an innocent girl like Linda Chung.

I think if someone is born attractive, plastic surgery would enhance their beauty more, eg: a nose job, an eye lid. But if a person isn’t that great to look at to start with, no amount of surgery is going to made then “hot” and Raymond fail big time. Fans who like him due to his looks needs stronger glasses. 😛
Raymond Lam is very over-rated. He has no charisma, relied on plastic surgery to improve his looks (didn’t help) and just another actor wannabe who thrives on notoriety. He has no class as compared to Kevin Cheng.

Haven’t even reached that status yet. He wouldn’t be able to win the Most Popular Asian Male Singer award if Eason was still around. You’ve got a longgg way to go buddy.
I always thought you can say that about Ron or Kevin or Bosco but not Raymond. He was already very famous a few years’ back. And I do mean very famous. And since his singer popularity is based on his acting career, I will say he has made it. You underestimated Raymond’s popularity. He’s the only TVB artist that can make a concert tour in HKC, Vietnam, Spore, Malaysia and some other places. I heard that he’s going to the west too.

Eason Chan has a decent film career. I think people like to watch as well as listen to him. He is a celebrity with a distinct personality, famous for his character and charisma. He’s somewhat a male version of Miriam Yeung, able to make people lighten up and enjoy his presence.
BTW, this is not the most flattering photo of Ray. Of course when the news is bad they always use the worst image they can find.

To me, feminine guys are unattractive. When news of Mavis Pan came out, lots of people bashed Raymond for being a ‘woman’ and crying over sleeping photos omg… I won’t go into detail but people commented on what a wuss he is. Oh wellz… you can like him if you want. He needs some TLC awwwww

easy to fix this problem. just get RL fans to purchase all show’s concert tickets to fill up the seats. lol
What does it mean when you says your tickets have been cut? As in, you are unable to purchase tickets online? So as long as I have the actual paper tickets, I’ll be fine for the night of the concert?
The tickets orders through the FC are cut for internal demands. About 5000 tickets are cut and forced to order through other ways or changed to $250.
