Sheren Tang on Negative TVB Criticism

Attending a seniors’ day event as an ambassador to raise awareness for helping the elderly, Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯) shared her thoughts on the latest barrage of criticism towards TVB productions.

Having previously voiced her thoughts on working with TVB and their poor working conditions, Sheren was asked to comment on Wayne Lai‘s (黎耀祥) defense of the station. In a recent interview, Wayne was seen siding with the station and called netizens unfair for negatively criticizing TVB.

Although stating that she did not read Wayne’s interview in its entirety and was not in a position to comment on other people’s opinions, Sheren offered her perspective. “I didn’t see the interview and it’s hard for me to comment, but I think everyone has their own values and taste. For example, depending on age, everyone may look at a screenplay differently. Perhaps I may think it’s unreasonable, but some might find it interesting. That’s why it’s hard for me to judge and give my opinion on other people’s thoughts.”

The former TVB actress expressed that being open to different comments, including negative ones, is an important part of continuous improvement. “As soon as I stop listening and refuse to improve, it is aging. I have to remind myself this for a long time, so I don’t feel the negative comments are criticizing me. I use it as a means to improve myself.”

Sheren added that any free-to-air television broadcasting station should be more conscientious and produce dramas and programs that promote positive values.

  1. Which tvb program didn’t promote positive values are? I think Chinese including HK do it too well that it warps people’s understanding of the world. Promoting positive value is great, but it should be fine in a way closer to reality. I find tvb shows the villain is either down right dirty and the protagonist is too good for this world.
