[Style] Edison Chen Collaborates With Polo Ralph Lauren
It’s East meets West in Edison Chen‘s (陳冠希) new collaboration with fashion brand, Polo Ralph Lauren. Edison’s apparel label, CLOT, worked jointly with the American design company on a new collection inspired by Lunar New Year elements which will be released on January 27.
Reflecting CLOT’s mission of “bridging the gap between the East and West,” the limited collection combines elements of traditional Chinese clothing in Western silhouettes. A classic oxford button-down shirt used the knot closures seen on traditional Chinese clothes instead of buttons. Other designs include dragon motifs and red silk embroidery.
After advertisements and promotions for the joint collection surfaced online, reception was mixed. Many questioned the new designs’ aesthetics and were not too impressed with the juxtaposition of Eastern and Western elements. With the market and economy in Asia just starting to recover after a slight improvement in local COVID-19 cases, it is difficult to predict how well the new collection will sell.
