Tavia Yeung Not Interested in Being TVB’s #1 Sister

At the 2011 Next Magazine TV Awards, Tavia Yeung Yi wore a low-cut white dress, which revealed her good figure. The dress displayed Tavia’s front and backside assets. However, Tavia did not acknowledge that she was the most sexily attired artist at the Next Magazine Awards ceremony.

Recently, TVB developed a new marketing plan to promote Myolie Wu Hang Yee, Linda Chung Ka Yan, Fala Chen, and Kate Tsui Chi San as the “Four Beauties.” However, the list did not include Tavia. Responding nonchatalantly, Tavia said, “I don’t care. Also, everyone are friends here.”

With Charmaine Sheh Si Man’s departure from TVB, Tavia had an opportunity to become the next Number One Sister at TVB. Tavia said, “This is just an empty title. The most important thing is earning more money. I do not want to be the #1 Sister.”

Jayne: Although Tavia’s acting skills are strong, I was surprised she was not included in the “Four Beauties” promotion, just turn it to “Five Beauties” instead.

  1. haha…I like what she said: ” just an empty tittle” yes, I feel that too… Most important is earning more money and have a happy life. If you have that tittle, you never live in peace

  2. Unfortunately, no matter 4 or 5, they can’t match up to the 5 Golden Beauties of the 80’s-Yammie Nam, Kitty Lai, Margie Tsang, Ivy Chan, and Jamie Chik. I miss those days!

    1. Wasn’t Barbara Yung one of them too/ You mean Idy Chan, right? I agree that the Golden Beauties back in the 80’s are the best:)

      1. Tammy, thanks for the correction! Yes, I meant Idy Chan! Barbara Yung was definitely one of the faves, too, but unfortunately her career was so short-lived because she commit suicide.

    2. Yea, I miss those days too. Idy was also know as Ivy at times too… That is one reason why I never place high importance on their English name. They continously change it since it isn’t official.

      1. Thanks, HTS! I No wonder why I got her name mixed up!

      2. @HeTieShou What?! Really? Being an Idy fan for so many years, I’ve never heard that she was known as Ivy? All around the forums, I’ve only seen her name written as Idy Chan.

      3. @Aly,
You are welcome…Artists change their English quite a bit so it is hard to keep track of sometimes.

        @Chriselle,
I am a big fan of hers and many others from the golden 80s and have seen her English name spelled as Ivy as well as Idy in various magazines and posters. That was how I know that it can be either way…I guess fans finally just settled for Idy so have stuck to it since then…

  3. I don’t think she is a “beauty”, so maybe that’s why they don’t wanna promote her that way, maybe they have bigger thing in mind for her, and she will be sister #1. I mean, she even said so her self that she is a “normal citizen” looking one and that’s why audiences like her so much. She has all the qualities of a #1 sister, like Charmaine Sheh, she ain’t that pretty, they have good audience fate, and they have talent, the stay only on television acting, and there singer talent is meh…

    1. Everybody has different opinions about beauty. I think Kate is the ugliest out of the 4 with her slanted eyes and pouty lips. Myolie used to be ugly because of her baby fat cheeks but now she looks average. Best of luck to Tavia because it seems she’s not backed up by any executives.

      1. @Yee Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder then because I find Tavia’s features and overall looks to be way more natural and attractive than those of Kate. I agree with some of those who believes that Kate has the “movie look” and would probably do better in movies. Moreover, since movies are shorter in duration, the audience might not have to suffer her average acting. I don’t appreciate her acting, but there is a certain degree of subtly that distinguishes it from everyone else’s.

@Bella In fact, Kate’s slanty eyes is probably my favorite facial feature of hers! She even emphasized during her MHK that people find her eyes attractive. Her lips are a bit weird which in turn makes her smile a bit fake sometimes.

I would rate their looks in order from most attractive to least attractive: Tavia, Fala, Linda, Myolie, Kate. Myolie and Kate looks less feminine. Linda looks cute. Tavia and Fala are gorgeous even though Tavia’s face may come off as too “big” sometimes.

      2. I think it’s “long” more than “big”.

You seem like the feminine in a woman.

BTW, beauty in eyes of girls and guys are different. I think if ask a guy on these girls, he’ll give you a different answer.

  4. what a joke! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally Tavia is one of the prettiest TVB actresses nowadays. Don’t get why Myolie is in the list. The list don’t mean a shit.

    1. Fala, Myolie,Charmaine,Kate,Tavia are OK Looking, maybe a little above average due to plastic surgery.
The best looking actresses are from the 80’s and the 90’s. I still think GIGI LAI is beautiful, Michelle Reis (despite her tainted past),Carman Lee etc are all beauties.

      1. Gigi Lai IS stunning. Too bad her acting was subpar 98% of time.

I often feel that Tavia fans overstate her beauty, but she’s pretty enough. Kate and Linda are not two people I consider great beauties. I like Fala and think she’s very pretty, but she doesn’t have a traditional beautiful look like e.g. Michelle Reis so her beauty does not appeal to everyone. Myolie CAN look beautiful. As long as she doesn’t cry. Charmaine is another either or. Either you think she’s pretty or you really don’t think she’s pretty. Personally, I’ve always liked her (look).

      2. Wow Advo, I completely agree with all of your assessments of the girls lol

      3. Gigi Lai is a beauty. If her acting and charisma is better than what she had she might’ve achieved a good success in TV and movies.

Michelle Reis is one of the most classically beautiful and intelligent Miss Hong Kong.

      4. Hehe, Michelle Reis is drop dead gorgeous. Lol, what was her tainted past other than dating a string of wealthy men? It’s difficult to expect a classical beauty like her to date anyone less than wealthy.

Gigi can be pretty at times, but overall I find her cheeks too puffy and her face too round? Her acting never appealed to me and I’ve always thought her success was due to luck and perhaps due to the length of time she invested herself in the industry. It’s still a mystery to me why she won Best Actress when the other three lead actresses were better than her. Anyone know why she was promoted? Lol, I can’t help but feel that it was a bad investment on TVB’s side since she decided to leave the circle after 4 years of winning that award. Because her acting has always been OTT, I never enjoyed her onscreen presence much.

      5. Oops, I forgot to add that I think Tavia’s acting is way above Gigi’s although she has attained the Best Actress award. These days awards doesn’t mean much; Tavia’s acting is much more natural than Gigi’s OTT style.

      6. I don’t think Michele Reis is that great but that’s just what I think. I have seen pictures of her mom and sister and she looks nothing like them… I am guessing she looks like her dad. About intelligence, not sure… I think Pauline Yeung was more intelligent as well as other MS Hks. THey are more elegant and classy as well.

I think Gigi and Carman are pretty, but not sure about the beautiful part…

    2. What? ARe you talking about my comment? Because I read an interview in a magazine and Tavia said so her self that she was a “normal” looking person that’s why she’s so popular…I just agree with her…

    3. Like you said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so why are YOU questioning why Myolie is on the list?

    4. I agree with you! In my opinion, Tavia is one of the prettiest actresses nowadays. Okay, maybe “pretty” isn’t the exact word, but she has this look that makes her show a lot of potential. To me, she’s considered more of a beauty than other TVB actresses.I don’t find Myolie or Kate looking like beauties. As for Linda Chung, she’s the cute kind of pretty, and I guess Fala Chen is pretty too.

      1. It’s silly that TVB can’t see Tavia’s potential and talent while they can see Myolie, Fala, Linda, and Kate’s. Doesn’t Tavia have the least criticisms amongst the five? At least that seems like so.

Myolie was condemned by netizens for her horrible crying and OTT acting in The Master of Tai Chi.

Fala was not well-liked for her Cantonese accent, but she has improved rapidly. Her acting has became more natural too, but some of her emotions are still superficial. Needs more grooming.

Some people didn’t like Linda for her chicken/girly voice?

As for Kate, people simply say she can’t act.

      2. With Tavia and her great potential, I’m sure she’s gonna be more and more popular. Just look at how busy she is ! I don’t get why the other four are so popular, esp. with Myolie and Kate. But I’m sure Tavia will never be left behind in TVB. After all, imagine TVB without Tavia nowadays. That’s like leaving a massive hole. She’s one of the strongest actresses left.

      3. You over-evaluate Tavia if you think she’s is irreplaceable in TVB. So far, she’s yet to develop enough screen charisma to carry a series and especially, on her own. At best, she’s a great supporting actress – but there’s a reason for the word SUPPORTING in the title.

Furthermore, she too is becoming guilty of heavy overacting despite her fans’ claims that her acting is very “natural”. She might just turn out to be the next Myolie, whom just now is starting to make a comeback.

      4. Yea, I have to agree with advo, Tavia has a hard time carying her own series, she often relies on other people to make her character seem interessting. Like in the Mysteries of Love, which acting was werid…, she relied on Ray’s character which made her more likeable. In Rippling her character was just boring, good acting would of made her the lead, but instead she was just like a supporting character. I don’t think she had the potential to be TVB #1 sister, because he range is only dramatic cry cry series, where as the other four can do more. Plus, TVb is stating to forget about her, she needs a big series that can make her memorable.

      5. I don’t get why the other four are so popular, esp. with Myolie and Kate.

Because there are ppl who don’t share the same opinion with you.

        No one is irreplaceable.

      6. Mhmm, of course we all have different opinions. This is why we have something to talk about.

      7. I think Tavia is quite pretty as well. But I really dislike her with short hair, it accentuates her long face… she’s the prettiest with midlength hair (like in the Mysteries of Love). In terms of beauty, I think Tavia > Kate > Linda > Fala > Myolie. However, with likability, I think Tavia > Linda > Fala > Myolie > Kate.

  5. Is anyone actually going to say, hell yeah, I’m gunning for the 1st sister position? Most likely not, because most women want to APPEAR modest. Charmaine was the 1st sister AND she made the most money, so I don’t get Tavia’s conflicting statement at all.

    1. There was a time when Bernice Liu was making more money than Charmaine, altho Charmaine was the #1 sister!

    2. Yeah, it feels like HK artistes are taught to be more modest when it comes to this. They want to show more cooperation than competition even though this industry is strictly competition. While money and being happy is important, but I can’t help but feel that it would never feel good for an artiste not to be valued by their company. Tavia has always came off as less aggressive when it comes to being promoted as she has understood that this industry is competitive. I don’t believe she is faking this, but rather accepting reality. But of course, it would be best to have both money and the title. Lol, if the #1 sister doesn’t earn the most money, then who does?

      1. @Chriselle

well said! you are very spot on when you said that Tavia understood the game/politics within tvb and have accepted reality. I think part of the reason why her mentality is the way it is, is because she started off from the very bottom and slowly made her way up the ranks.. I guess she cherishes and respects every opportunity a lot more than others.. but I’m not at all saying that other artiste take their opportunities for granted, but they don’t have the feeling of building a foundation from nothing..

      2. @ It’s just a facade. The entertainment industry is EXTREMELY competitive and anyone who isn’t like that will never amount to anything. And it’s not just the HK industry, no one in Hollywood ever says that want they Oscar. They will say I’m honoured just to be nominated when in reality, they are dying to get it.

What I don’t understand is why people think being competitive is something negative. It’s not.

      3. @advo,
I think being competitive can be a good and a bad thing too. I mean if you are so competitive to the point that you would push others down just so you can be on the top, then that is definately something bad.I had classmate that was always really competitive and I hated being around her because she always wanted to be better than everyone. She would even do bad things to me and others behind our backs just to knock us down so that she can better than us. But if you are competitive in the sense that you just want to work hard and be at your personal best and not necessarily trying to defeat others, then that is a good thing. I think in this time and age, you should cherish every opportunity, especially in the circle where competition is higher than many other fields. I am glad that Tavia has that mindset and that will be better for her.

      4. @advo Of course, no one will outright say I want the award although they are secretly craving it inside. It’s totally understandable that as human beings, we have the innate tendency to want to achieve the greatest, to reach our potential.

There is really nothing wrong with wanting to be competitive, and sometimes a little competition can lead to some surprising improvements and outcomes on the side of the actors. If there was no competition, actors would have nothing to strive for and there would be no reason for them to fight so hard in this industry. While external monetary rewards are important, we too have a natural tendency to want to be valued by others. Receiving acceptance from a large audience yields intrinsic satisfaction and that is rewarding.

Sure, money is important, but it’s even better to have both the money and the value. Because Tavia was not selected as one of the 4 Beauties, she must accept what she’s got to maintain a optimistic mindset. There is nothing wrong with her thinking as long as it does not hinders with her performance as an actress. Ultimately, accept what you can’t change.

HeTieShou is right. If everyone so was honest and outspoken about what they wanted, I can imagine that there would be lots of fighting in this world. It’s simply easier to yield every once in a while, be assertive, but don’t step on others as we will never know when it will come back to us.

  6. Haha, maybe TVB want to promoted her as #1 Sister, so, they leave her out of the 4 Beauties group. 😀

What others say about the 5 Beauties of the Golden 80’s is correct. How come inn the 80’s, the lead actresses are all so beautiful?

    1. I must agree with the 5 beauties of the Golden 80s too. I’ve been rewatching scenes from The Final Combat with Stephen Chow because Yammie Nam was just so pretty and cute! I only watch Yammie scenes lol I also rewatched The Grand Canal because Idy was so fierce and charismatic and Margie was just so darn adorable!

    2. Haha. Your “twist” is interesting. Clap clap 😀

  7. Tavia looks gorgeous in the above photo! I love her short haircut and it suits her mature image very well since long hair are more for girls who goes the cute route. However, amongst the five, I feel that Tavia’s passion and talent for acting is the greatest. It’s definitely ironic that she’s not included and it’s beyond me why TVB decided upon this. I believe she should replace Kate although Tavia said she doesn’t care.

    1. I think Kate should film movies. She’s more at ease on the big screen.

    2. I think Kate is better as a Movie acting star, I dunno why she seems like the cop like tom boys that look good kinda of role.

  8. When there are 5 people and only 4 are mentioned by the management, no doubt the press will pursue the matter.

I think all of them should be given their own chances.

  9. I thought I read somewhere that Virginia Lok does not like Tavia. Is this true?

If so, then that’s why Tavia is left out.

    1. If this is true, I really wonder why as Tavia comes along as someone easy to get along with. Can someone confirm and enlighten us on this matter?

  10. Out of the whole list,I dislike Fala the most, but she is actually really pretty. I believe people are blinded by her looks, that is why she get so much promotion and publicity. I don’t think she is all that good of an actress, but is naturally pretty. For the people that say Linda is ugly, they only say that, because of her nose. Atleast she isn’t insecure about it and can go on,that is what i admire about Linda.

    1. I met Linda in person, in a very close distant and her nose is not really the problem in person. It looks smaller than on screen. But other problem I notice is her skin. It looks not smooth. I heard somewhere that she has problem with her skin. BTW, with light make up, she looks sweeter but very “made in HK”.

      1. OH I AM SO IMPRESSED YOU MET LINDA CHUNG!! I’m a little bit disappointed with the findings though haha I never want to meet any of my favorite celebrities because I don’t want to ruin the image I have of them in my head.

      2. I dun have any intention to meet her, just saw her in a G2000 shop then talked with her a bit (asked for her signature for my friend because she was too shy). I quite like Linda’s English voice, very sweet but I was a bit shocked tat she looks so Made in HK like this.

Lol, if that you should idolize manga character because they won’t never change :). I once idolize manga character and this feeling is so good.

      3. @iampheng If there was a “like” button for your comment, I would totally use it. 😀

      4. @Chriselle, LOL your “like” is known to me in my heart hahaha

      5. @Fox,
What do you mean by “made in Hk”?? Can you please elaborate on that a bit more? I am just really curious about what you mean. Well, a lot of actresses and people rely on make up and skin creams to look decent. You wonder how they would really look without those things?? I guess we should not assume that all actresses naturally have nice skin or a good complexion.

      6. Do you watch You’re hired? I’m referring to the same “made in HK” girl that Dayo used in this one.

BTW, I’m saying about the look only.

    2. Since I’m from Vancouver, I still remember when Linda was only a candidate in the Vancouver Pageant. I have always liked her the best out of all the people from Vancouver that enrolled into TVB. The other two, Leanne Li and Bernice Liu, doesn’t appeal to me much. There’s also Cici (I forgot her last name), but I think she’s a TVB host or something, not really into the acting.

      1. You forgot Christine Kuo. I rmb she is from Vancouver too.

      2. Christine Kuo is from Toronto, not Vancouver.

      3. Oh, my bad. But I rmb there is a 4th miss Vancouver.

      4. Hmmm…..she is probably from way back then, because recently, the pageant winners speak only Mandarin and English. TVB doesn’t offer them chances in HK, so they either get promoted by the Vancouver Fairchild TV or just fade off. Of course, an exception is Leanne Li, because she tried really hard afterwards to master her Canto for a chance in TVB.

      5. There was another Vancouver winner I think back in 2002, after Bernice Liu. I think her name is Shirley Zhou, but she spoke Mandarin and I don’t think she entered the industry, so she is less well-known.

      6. @Aly

Yesyes, I remember now. Like I said, she was from way back then. At the time, I remember she was quite favoured, now she’s just forgotten. But it seems like all the “known” Vancouver pageants are the ones ending up in TVB. There’s really not much of you left if you speak only Mandarin.

    3. Kate Tsui is very attractive, someone you’ll take a second look when you see her on the streets. She has a very great and fun personality as well, that’s what I like most about her. But as for acting/singing skills… it’s improving, i like her alot.

      1. No offense but if I see her on the streets I will walk away because she looks like she has some knife hidden underneath her clothes, ready to strike.

      2. In real person and light make up, she looks less fierce.

      3. No offense but if I see her on the streets I will walk away because she looks like she has some knife hidden underneath her clothes, ready to strike

        @ Funn Lim

Haha, i know what you mean.. Her pictures do come across as very fierce and a little mental..

      4. Kate’s face is too fierce. The character in A Great Way to Care is most suitable for her look.

      5. Not fierce but mental. Her eyes seems unsettled.

      6. I get scary feeling when I look at Kate too. She reminds me of Eva Huang, but Eva doesn’t really give me that type of feeling as much as Kate…

    4. How can you hate Fala? Her acting is the BEST in my opinion, because she has more varieties of roles that she’s done, and more reconization for them. Her two acting awards are for characters that are total opposites, one was a bitch and the other a nice girl. She is the only one out of the five that has talent in all varieties of acting, plus she’s the prettiest. But Linda’s acting is also very good, and most improved from when she started, she has a pretty big range, but they always are good girls. Her comedic abilities are really good, like in Twilight Investigation, but she needs to improve on her bitchy villian roles(The Gem of Life…meh) As for the other three, they are all average, in my opinion, but Myolie is funny too.

      1. Well besides beauty, talent is also in the eye of the beholder. I think Fala’s acting is ok since she still has a lot to learn. She also isn’t playing any leads yet right?? I think Fala looks pretty with full make up, but without it, I think Linda, Kate and others look better than her. As for talent, I think Linda and Kate may have more potential than her. They also have already have had leading roles as well… But hey, lets see what time will tell…

      2. @HeTieShou Fala hasn’t been given any real lead roles other than The Stew of Life in which she shared it with Louise Lee. Does that count? Lots of times in TVB series, there is no distinguished lead stars and Fala doesn’t seem to mind as she admitted in many interviews before. As long as the artiste has adequate screen time to shine, that’s enough. She outshined Myolie in In the Eye of the Beholder and Charmaine in Can’t Buy Me Love.

      3. Fala was the lead female role in Links to Temptation. I personally think she still has to “share” the lead as she is not ready to lead her own series yet. Yoyo Mung was the second lead actress in that one and I thought she got to shine more than Fala because it was her first villain role.

      4. @ Chriselle, actually her role in The Stew of Life was considered a supporting role, because she made it into the top 5 in the 2009 anniversary awards for best supporting actress as her role as Charlie. As for Links of Temptations, that series was just wack…to me it made absolutely not sense, how everything started with a cellphone? I don’t know how it got higher viewership that Only You…
@ HeTieShou, I have to agree with you that Linda has more potential than her when it comes to being more popular, but in my opinion her acting is better. But Kate…I don’t think she’s that pretty or that talented when it comes to acting. She’s a good dancer though…NOT SINGING!
Fala does outshine when she is more of a second lead or supporting, but she will get a good lead role soon. Plus she’s filming Laughing Gor series right now, that should be good.

  11. The standard for Four Beauties is who to promote or who is pretty?

How come Kate Tsui is in it?

    1. Yes, I wonder about Kate Tsui too. Sorry to her fans, but I don’t find her great at acting or in terms of her looks.

      1. I think Kate is ok and sort of me reminds me of Eva Huang Sheng Yi(mainland China actress), but Eva is a lot prettier than Kate. Once again, beauty as well as talent in the eye of the beholder.

    2. Haha. Kate appeals to me. She has a unique presence.

      1. To me, too. I also saw her in real life and she really has the sexy look.

      2. P/S: Kate has an unique look tat can’t be seen in TVB now. This look is not like “made in HK”.

      3. I kinda agree to that. I mean, even though I don’t find her acting or looks great, I still like her off screen, because she seems like a nice person.

      4. I don’t know about HK looks or not but Kate has a sharp face that made her different from other TVB actresses.

I found her strangely attractive when she won Miss Hong Kong. Apparently Johnnie To did too.

      5. But she looks ugly in Break of Law, with the thick eyebrows.

    3. I find Kate beautiful.

Like others said, she has a unique presence.

  12. I wonder why in Tavia’s story, always have the word “Money” in it? If it’s the first or second time, it would be alright but 9/10 time she does an interview, “Money” will appear. I’m not too familiar with her background but I knew that her sister got married with a rich man, so she needs money that much?

I don’t think Tavia has very good figure but her skin is quite smooth. Maybe H2O helps her. A lot of ppl say it’s good, I’ll think of a try.

Beauty is on the eyes of beholder, but there are some general standards. Talk about “prettiness” I think Gigi still remain her status. Linda looks sweet, Fala looks cute, Myolie looks unique and Kate looks sexy. 4 of them have different beauty but none of them is beautiful or stunning in my view. Another person that I feel “beautiful” when I see her is Sonija Kwok. She is such a beauty.

    1. If I remember correctly, Tavia’s sister Griselda married an ex boxing champion of middle class.. Griselda has her own family of three and lives away from her sister and mother.. Tavia lives with her mother and has always wanted her mother to live more comfortably since her father died in 05/06..

its understandable that Tavia wants more money now because she’s at her peak where she can find a lot of money through advertisement and stage shows.. you really don’t know when your time is up in this industry so may as well milk it while it lasts.. although Tavia has just started branching into the mainland market, I feel that Tavia will try to make hk her focus since her mother is comfortably living there…

by the way, I also want to use H2O.. looks like a really good skincare brand..

      1. Isn’t her brother-in-law bought her a very expensive car?

I don’t think she will focus on the mainland because her fee is kinda low compare to her colleges. In HK she has a better status and promotion, except the fact that some of her fans think she is underpromoted.

I have to think of H20 because I use a giveout of it and it’s not very good as BB Cream. Maybe my bad luck.

      2. @sandalls

I agree with how you said Tavia will likely not focus on mainland. What’s the point of her going there when her mother is in HK? From previous knowledge, Tavia is someone that really sticks to her mother and is a good daughter. Doesn’t look like she’ll spend her time far away from her for long. Plus, she’s so popular in HK. Since Charmaine is allegedly leaving, there’s probably more dramas to film. Leaving for mainland is not needed.

      3. @ Fox

Tavia bought her own car, her brother-in-law did not buy her car, that would of been scandalous! haha! in an interview not too long ago, Tavia mentioned that she just bought herself a luxery car and is now saving to get into the property market.. hence money is pretty important at the moment..

and can I just add that I am a Tavia fan but not one of those defensive ones.. I know what you are talking about though and I agree, but please don’t think we are all unreasonable…

between the years 2003-2006 Tavia was underpromoted, but from 2007 onwards, I have been quite happy with Tavia’s roles and progress..

hmmm one more thing, what is BB Cream?? lol!

        @ sure-lee

while Tavia was filming The Emperor’s Harem, Tavia was quite homesick so that already was an indicator that her career lies within the hk market and she’s happy where she is.. being complacent is a good thing!

      4. BB cream is a trend of cosmetic. It’s quite ok. I’m using it before make up. You can try it.

I may read the scandal so have wrong info. Congrats her with the car, it looks nice.

I hate Tavia but what she can do, I won’t deny it as some fans of her always think. BTW, I hate her is a fact so of course this prejudice will affect my view on her. Can’t help, it’s my view. However, sometimes I don’t think she is bad, so (not for you but to the defensive fans) dun jump all the times like this and read my comments carefully.

      5. BB cream is rather good and in thing. Look at korean actresses, look at their flawless skins, probably bb cream at work.

      6. @ Fox

do you have any recommendations as to what brand of BB Cream is good?? so its kinda a primer cream before you apply makeup??

honestly speaking, I respect your opinions and its ok that you’re not a fan of Tavia (I have read your thoughts before on other articles and its reasonable).. I may or may not be a fan of your idol (whoever that may be), but hey, you can’t please everyone.. and there is not one artiste out there that doesn’t have at least one hater right??

all I can say is, giving out more positive energy to your favourites is what I like to do, but its unfortunate that some fans (Tavia’s or other artiste) get a little defensive and abusive.. I guess because there are probably more Tavia supporters online that you start to notice more defensive Tavia fans hahaha!

I actually might know how you mixed up Tavia’s brother-in-law buying her the car.. I think its because before Griselda announced that the boxer was her boyfriend/fiance, the media thought that Tavia was dating him as they went to look at cars together.. hahaha thats probably why you thought he bought Tavia the car!

      7. @ sandalls: An example is just here :P.

Hehe, I must say that if Tavia has more fans like you, the debate will be funnier. At least someone can put effort on reading. I dun buy the way some ppl jump at any opposite comments.

      8. I actually thought H2O is water, as in drink lots of water.

        I am totally lost.

      9. H20 is a cosmetic brand name in Msia, Funn. If I’m right, Tavia is still the endorser for this one. When I went to LF’s concert in Msia, as H20 and Nugeno (the one LF endorsed) are from the same company, I have a giveout of H20 so I knew Tavia is their endorser. Need sandalls to provide more info as she is a fan.

      10. Yeah but when I was reading I actually thought water so I was thinking WAHHHH so scientific, all use H2O instead of the word water! yeah yeah I am dreaming.

        She may probably use SKII!

      11. @Fox and sandalls, I am using the Dr. G brand of BB cream, which I liked a lot. I also tried the Skin79 brand, but I would recommend Dr. G because of its high quality of ingredients, although it is more expensive. Both are well known Korean brands.

When I get the chance, I will post reviews of these BB creams on JayneStyle, as everyone seems curious on exchanging thoughts on which are the better BB creams out there.

      12. BB cream is Korean’s? I always think it’s China’s.

      13. I believe they originated in Korea and some other non-Asian country. The people that work at the shop I got it at told me that BB creams were originally used for people who have had some cosmetic surgery (which is extremely popular there) done to help their skin heal better because the skin will be red or flaky originally. But it became more popular as celebrities started using them. It made their skin look more even and glowing. That’s what they told me. I haven’t seen it expand to too many cosmetic brands outside of Korea too much. I’m a fan of Clinique and Shiseido’s White Lucent, but they do not make BB creams.

      14. Why do these comments on every article always change subject? Lol…

      15. @Jayne

I’m currently using Dr G too, but find the color a bit too ‘pale’. But it has good oil control and medium coverage. Same with Dr Jart, another wonderful brand but the tone is so ‘ashy’.

Skin79 is the best when it comes to tone, very natural and glowing. However, it tend to be oily and overpriced for a commercial cosmestic brand, compared to the two above, which is dermatological brand.

      16. @sehseh,
thanks for sharing your experience with the BB creams. I did a lot of research before deciding to purchase the SKin79 and Dr. G brands. Since I am in the US, the products tend to be expensive due to importing process and shipping from overseas. I liked how Skin79 made my skin glow, especially the one with the glitter effect. 🙂 I think it is the mineral oil content in the Skin79 products that made it feel thicker and oily. Mineral oil tends to also clog pores. While I liked the finishing effect of Skin79, I like how Dr. G feels on my face. It makes my skin texture really smooth and feels less thick on my skin. It really feels like I am moisturizing my skin while wearing it. The matte finish, while nice, does not produce as much glow as Skin79. But I think I will continue using it because I don’t want to use products that will clog my pores too much. Also, I will wait until I exhaust my supply of beauty products before I order from Sasa.com again.

Thanks for your input…I love what BB cream can do…so much better than traditional foundation! Will post more of my thoughts on the above BB creams and more skincare products I have tried on JayneStyle soon! Aiya, so much on the agenda to do!

      17. @Jayne Yes! Please do a review of the BB Creams that you like and dislike. That would be awesome!

      18. Tavia’s father passed way in 2005/2006?? Really? I was wondering why she never mentioned her father… That is sad to hear…

      19. Hm.. great discussion about BBcream here. But I don’t think that should be called a cream since it is foundation make up, not a cream. At first I thought it was a cream and was going to use it, but then discovered that it is make up so I refuse to use it because I don’t wear make up. I think they should call it BBfoundation or something instead of BBcream because the name is misleading.

    2. To Fox: I’m not surprised to see your crude comments about Tavia in her related news. But I thought you might not have time to go around to dig news about her and bash her with your opinionated self since you’re so busy defending your idol.

      1. Haha, I even have a hater. Nice! That means Fox is famous. I can guess you are who, lol.

      2. P/S: I’ll consider your comment as a praise. I’m not that busy to defend anyone so I have time to dig something and providing some “crude comments”. Laugh die me.

      3. The link of this news is right at the homepage. No need to dig.

      4. First, have to compliment you on your English because it improves a little bit, however you should heed my advice and go study some more instead of wasting your time obsessing with a celebrity whom you claim to hate. I never understood your comment because the writing was filled with grammatical errors and structure of words that
made no sense. ‘Laugh Die Me’? That was the funniest expression ever.

      5. @ fan: If you can’t understand me, then no doubt why you are posting such thing. Haha, you are so cute.

Lol, Laugh die me is a slang of Chinese. Dun need to find the grammar to prove it’s wrong, everyone knew that. However, “laugh die me” sounds very cute, rite? Same to ORZ or YY which are using in common now. However, I can predict that you will say “I don’t know Chinese blah blah” to reply me, then I suggest you not to do that.

BTW, why you are wasting your time? If you don’t want to do that, I don’t force you to dig mine :P. Like kidd said, the news is at the homepage of the site, dun need to dig.

      6. P/S: Or you can try to protect your Tavia by your perfect English instead of picking on me. You are making yourself my fan more than hers, so… go ahead :P.

      7. @Foxhater,
I think you are a fan of Tavia but you don’t need to get mad and all just because someone doesn’t like Tavia. I don’t think Fox is saying anything really really bad about Tavia so you don’t need to over react like that. Just remember that regardless of how famous or popular anyone is, there will be people that will not like them.

      8. Yes, I totally agree with HeTieShou. Everyone has their own opinions. I like Tavia too, but that doesn’t mean other people have to like her. I also dislike other people’s idols. Everyone in the world will have people disliking them, an obviously if they are celebrities, they are judged even more.

    3. yes yes, Tavia still endorses H20 in Malaysia.. don’t remember who endorses the brand in hk though..

I’m pretty sure that its called H20 because the cream is a water-based and oil-free skincare that protects the skin (equvilent to 8 glasses of water).. found the infomercial that Tavia filmed for the brand in 09… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy1YevDLSH8

before endorsing H20, Tavia was using O’slee which is a natural product..

    4. yes yes, Tavia still endorses H20 in Malaysia.. don’t remember who endorses the brand in hk though..

    5. H2O is skin care, and BB Cream isnt, it s makeup product

      1. I have heard of H2O,but have never used it and yes it is a skin care product. BBcream is makeup and is not skin care. Therefore, the name is really misleading and confused me for a long time until I finally found info saying straight out that it is a makeup product and not a skin care product.

      2. @Fox,
Oh sorry, I thought you were just referring to the face. Well, I have seen some people that have problems with their skin, but used make up and other stuff to cover it up.But yea, from a distance you can’t see it. However, up close you can see it all and even make up and skin care can’t do much if you have major problems with your skin. But make up does help to cover up flaws on the skin and does work for minor flaws but doesn’t help much with big flaws.

    6. Well aren’t a lot of actors/actresses in the circle for money?? It isn’t just Tavia. ALso, since she is living with her mom, she wants to support her mom as well.
Her sister is married? I wonder when her sister got married?

With skin, all actresses seem to have nice skin on screen due to the lighting and make up. But I guess they are supposed to look that way.I think having nice skin or not is also a part of genetics.I have seen some people that use a lot of different kinds of make up and skin care, but their skin still doesn’t look that nice. However, there are some that don’t use much but still have nice skin because they just naturally have it. With celebs, it is even harder to tell since we have not them in person or have seen them close up. I used to think that Linda Chung had nice skin since she looked better than a lot actresses without make up. But now I just heard that she has problems with her skin so I wonder…

      1. Uhm, here is the list tat I saw in real life to have very nice skin: Charlene Choi, Miriam Yeung and Sharon Chan. Sharon Chan has the smoothest skin I have ever seen.

      2. @Fox,
Thanks for your info. But I don’t think it is their bare skin that you saw right? Of course actresses would not meet up with fans with nothing on their face. At least you saw them in real life and it’s great that you got to meet them. I thought that Gigi Lai had nice skin and all, but then I saw a picture of her with no make up and her skin did not look that nice..

      3. Yes, not the bare skin but the skin in arms, leg and neck is bare. Very smooth and nice. If the skin has problem, the make-up can’t help to cover.

  13. i am a little shocked. tavia has performed very well these yrs. i have a good feeling towards her too, at least than those that was mentioned.

did Tavia do something they dont like? its not good for her to not be mentioned, then she will lose all the advertisment she has and ppl will not invite her to events if they know she is not promoted. very bad. i feel sorry for her.

  14. nothing compares to the beauties back in the old days

  15. I guess it really doesn’t matter to Tavia whether or not she takes the number one sister place. After all, she is in so many dramas this year, probably more than any other actress in TVB. And also, ever since BTROC, she’s been getting female leads all along. Currently, she has been filming non-stop as well. She’s probably content without the number one sister title. And who knows, maybe she will carry the title one day naturally if she continues her non-stop filming along with her great efforts.

    1. well said.. no need for a title.. just continue to do the jobs at hand and recognition will speak volumes..

    2. Yes,well said.Tavia is my favourite TVB actress….Wishing her the best in everything!

    3. Of course she has to say she doesn’t mind. In Asia saying what you want is too aggressive. Unlike westerners where it is encouraged, in Asia being modest above all else helps. Deep down everybody wants to win, everybody wants to be no. 1 at whatever they do. To deny that is an outright lie.

Well it is up to her whether she can achieve that status. Work hard Tavia!

      1. And yes I don’t find her traditionally pretty, the slimmer and more toned her body the more masculine she looks. But you gotta admit, she’s looking more and more glamarous, and come one day she may not be believable as the ordinary next door girl. Like Myolie.

      2. I mean Myolie NOT believable as that next door girl.

      3. Myolie is elegant. Back then she was the cute girl next door but after To Grow with Love she loses her baby fat along with the fat that she added during filming and made her looking more elegant. Her dressing is also very stylish now. I love this elegant style of hers.

      4. @lol Agree completely! In fact, I actually invest more time and energy examining Myolie’s wardrobe, style, and personality more than enjoying her acting. She’s a good actress, but she hasn’t had a mind-blowing one. My favorite days of her is still Survivor’s Law and that was 8 years ago. I didn’t know her style started changing after To Grow with Love, but thought she gradually evolved as a person in this industry due to the experiences she faced. Speaking of her style, she needs a new haircut soon. I love her short hair as it makes her more elegant and polished.

      5. @Funn Yeah, westerners adopt a more individualistic style and we celebrate winning and personal accomplishment, but China and Hong Kong are a more collective society.

      6. But I think that kind of equates to being fake too. One of my ex friends is like that. She always says that she doesn’t want this and that, but deep down she wants it more than anybody else. I would rather you just say it straight out rather than acting all modest but then wanting it more than anyone. I guess that’s how it is in Asia more. However, actions are stronger than words. You can say that you don’t need or want something, but then you end up working towards it. I guess that is when people realize that some are only putting on an act…

  16. Comment of Myolie’s beauty, I think she has the poses. Her poses are like the best among TVB actresses. Some of them can’t pose, always have the same poses in every pictures and dun noe how to show their stronghold. That’s why they dun look sexy even in revealing clothes.

  17. Most if not all TVB main leading actresses are all pretty such as Nnadia Chan, Gigi Lai, Jamie Chik, Kenix Kwok, Monica Chan, Michelle Reis, and Tavia Yeung.

I hope Tavia will be the #1 leading sister in her generation.

  18. The current ones aren’t as pretty as the ones from the 80’s and 90’s.

    Prettiest TVB actresses:

Gigi Lai (though I hate her acting)
Ada Choi (should have been no. 1 sister)
    Kenix Kwok
Noel Leung (soooo pretty and cute)
Maggie Cheung (pretty in a plain way but still prettier than the current 4 beauties)
    Nnadia Chan

Kate Tsui’s acting if far better than Fala’s and Linda’s.

  19. I like the beauty of Marianne Chan Miu Ying and Maggie Cheung Ho Yee. Their looks are unique and appealing. Their acting is also superb. The older they grow, the more attractive and graceful they become.
Regarding Kenix Kwok, I prefer her round face in the old days. In 2000s, she got too much skinny and her face lost its original shape, making her look really mature.

    1. I like Maggie Cheung Ho Yee and Marianne Chan’s acting too, but as for looks, not really Marianne Chan.

    2. Marianne is a good actress although I’ve only seen 2-3 works of hers. She’s not that pretty and I find it a bit surprising that she was put in lead roles. Is it me or do I remember seeing her as quite chubby in Love is Beautiful?

      1. Marianne is gorgeous and a brilliant actress. How can anyone say Fala is pretty when she is so plain looking?
Marianne looking chubby in Love is beautiful? How? Just because she doesn’t have a sculpted bony face makes her chubby?
Back then all the actresses all had a unique look about them and now they all just look the same. Their names are not worth remembering anymore

      2. Strictly speaking Fala is prettier than Marianne. But Marianne’s face has character, she looks strong and independent and often played such roles eventhough in real life she wasn’t as strong as we see her onscreen. She is also one of those rare ones from the pageant who can act and got better in time. She wasn’t chubby, just her bone structure was severe and she does look tall. A pity she left acting but good that she found a career as a businesswoman. I wonder what she is doing now? Married with kids?

I remember she was filming can’t remember which series and she was very scared of riding the horse and she was crying very hard and I remember the people at the set just picked her up, forced her on the horse as she cried. I found that to be rather cold and clearly at that time her standing in there wasn’t great so no one took the time to persuade her, just picked her up and dump her on the horse.

      3. By the way Love is Beautiful was fantastic series and even Anne Heung didn’t irritate me. And it in here we saw a bit of the talent of Pierre Ngo.

      4. @ Funn Lim

I agree with you about LIB. It was a fantastic series and I thought everyone pretty much played their roles well, esp. Marianne Chan. She was a brilliant actress in that series (although that was the only series I watched with her in it). At the time, I did wonder whether or not she was offended for being selected to play that role, known as the “ugly” face, and being compared to the “beautiful” Anne Heung.

      5. Reminder that beauty is, once again, in the eye of the beholder. Fans of Marianne will probably find their idol prettier and that’s normal.

Because I haven’t seen Marianne’s work in such a long time, I googled her and saw some pics of hers. It seems like her face has a lot of “meat” and it’s just not attractive to me.

I use to see Fala as a gorgeous woman, but perhaps because I’ve seen too much of her recently, she has been downgraded to being only cute. She has a nice figure and knows how to dress accordingly to show it off, but again, I haven’t seen Marianne attending functions and events so there is no way to compare. But even if there were, the fashion back then won’t give Marianne an edge.

On a side note, I have to admit that Fala’s short hair doesn’t suit her. Why are so many TVB artists cutting their hair short in such a boring way? Why can’t they do something more stylish like Myolie? I love her hair in Rippling Blossom and it makes her look elegant. Nancy had a beautiful style back in War of In-Laws II and long hair looks boring on her.

      6. Myolie has the sense of stylish. As for men, Joel 3C is one. He is stylish but when his friends (LF, Ron, Oscar, Derek) use his style, they become weird.

      7. I’ve became a fan of Ngo Ka Nin ever since I saw him in ‘Love is Beautiful’ and that was actually his first series if I remember correctly.

      8. @ sure-lee

Why would she be offended? She was not considered ugly. They have to make her ugly by putting fake birthmark and mole on her. Her character also became beautiful later and they used her own face.

      9. @sure-lee and Kidd: I agree with Kidd. It’s a chac. Charmaine also acts an ugly woman (guest) in this one and Marco made her become a beautiful one.

      10. @ Fox

You remembered wrongly liao. Charmaine did not play an ugly woman in LIB. Charmaine is Marianne’s fake face. Marco Ngai made a face mask for Marianne but it’s only for temporary. So, you see Charmaine walking happily on the street and suddenly her mask fell off and you see ugly Marianne. 😀

To get a permanent beautiful face, Marianne has to change it with someone.

      11. Hmm. I rmb Charmaine plays an ugly woman in this one and Marco changed her face to a beautiful one as example to let Marianne agree with him.

Lol, I have a foggy memory on this one. Watched it too long ago.

      12. Charmaine was a special guest star in Love Is Beautiful. Marianne was the ugly one inside and out and to show her he does have magic, he changed her into Charmaine for that few moment. Later on she changed face permanently with the pretty and kind hearted one, Anne Heung.

      13. Yeah, what Funn Lim and Kidd said, Charmaine was playing a temporary pretty version of Marianne Chan.

        @ Funn Lim

Well, I guess you’re right about her character only being known as ugly due to the birthmark and mole. But then again, it wouldn’t work out as well if she and Anne Heung switched the roles. So their normal face do somewhat have to do with the role.

      14. I disagree with you Funn about Fala being prettier than Marianne. Marianne has a very glamorous look about her.
On the other hand, Fala looks alot like the girls you get around here (u.k). She is extremely plain looking and despite the fact I don’t like Linda Chun, I will choose Linda over Fala any day

  20. TVB never did promote Tavia as a beauty hence her supporting roles for quite a number of years.

She is known more for her acting and straight-forwardness hence she is friends with most of the actors too.

And I agree with her too. What is important is how much you earn not an empty title. No point at all.

  21. SUPPORT TAVIA!!!! ALL THE WAY!!!! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH all tavia fans ESP-sandalls, Chriselle, AND,sure-lee UNLIKE! …..

  22. Will support Tavia till the end of her career. Go Tavia….

  23. Hahaha Kate Tsui? Four BEAUTIES? No Way. Myolie, Charmaine, Fala, and Tavia are the OK lookings.

  24. I wonder when TVB will begin grooming younger stars in their 20s into lead roles. I believe these 4 Beauties are either in their 30s or about to enter their 30s with Linda being the youngest.

And it’s seriously getting very boring seeing the same faces over and over again.

    1. They are supporting some new faces like Sire Ma, Christine Kuo, etc.

      1. I heard they’re promoting Oceane Zhu to the top too and I hope that is true. She has charisma onscreen and seems more comfortable than Christine. However, both girls can’t speak Cantonese at all. Christine is pretty, but her smile is not natural. Oceane lits up the screen.

As for Sire, I feel like her petite figure will put some restrictions on her although I did initially like her. Let’s see how she fares in her currently airing drama, Relic of an Emissary.

      2. They are all new, give them time.

On the other hand, JJ Jia, Koni Lui are also the name.

You want TVB to support new faces but you criticize them in their first roles? Have to support them if you want to see new faces.

      3. @fox It’s hard to promote Koni to leading actress because she’s too tall and there aren’t enough TVB actors to compensate her height (and even if there is, they don’t look cute/good together). However, I don’t mind seeing her in supporting roles and she’s usually entertaining to watch, actually more so than Aimee Chan who competed in the same year as her in MHK.

      4. @Chriselle

I agree with what you said about Christine. She is pretty, but there’s something about her smile that makes her acting look very unnatural. And also, I found her voice in TMOL very high and weird-sounding.

      5. TVB is now also pushing some tall men, example is Vincent Wong. Koni is shorter than 180cm, then men in TVB still can work with her.

BTW, Koni is said to have greater interest on movie, so her career, her choice.

As for the smile, I think Kaki Leung has a very natural smile. I know many ppl will disagree with me because Kaki dun look sweet, girl next door but just look at her smile. It’s bright. Lol, maybe she doesn’t use botox so her smile is not affected.

      6. Kaki leung does have a pretty nice smile but her front teeth kills it! she doesnt have nice teeth

      7. Oceane Zhu is very good. I like her acting although her Cantonese is not good yet. She’s really pretty too.

      8. I for one want to some new fresh faces. The industry will get going this way.

I’ve recently noticed Jess Shum(played young Anita Yuen in I Love HK) and Oceane Zhu. They are glowing and have fresh youth beauty.

Sire Ma is not bad too. She has a demure face 🙂

      9. How about Janice Ting? She acts Stone Sir’s daughter in GMG.

      10. @fox

My point was that Hong Kong actors are generally shorter than American ones because Chinese are shorter than Caucasians in general. Vincent might be tall, but his looks and talents are hardly lead role material. Although I really liked Carson in Gun Metal Grey, I’m more in love with the character than the actor himself. His features aren’t that striking either.

Agree, think Koni would be more appropriate for movies.

Personally, I don’t see much potential in Kaki simply because her features are not attractive or striking at all. Her nose is flat and like you mentioned, her teeth isn’t straight. I was astonished to learn that she will be playing Zhuge Liang’s (Raymond Lam) wife in Return to the Three Kingdoms until I researched and learned that Zhuge Liang’s wife was suppose to be ugly. Many people didn’t believe they were a good match and thought Zhuge Liang could find someone better. How she made it into the industry is beyond me. I remember back when I first saw her in E.U. and many people compared Elanne’s beauty to Kaki’s.

@Masaharu I was attracted to Jess’s character in D.I.E. Again and her mino character was noticed by the audience, but overall she isn’t beautiful. Her acting is very raw and still need lots of grooming. She’s been in lots of ancient dramas recently though I think she’s more suitable for the modern look.

      11. @ Chriselle

” How she made it into the industry is beyond me.”

She was a host in I-Cable before joining TVB. She’s a graduate of ‘The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts’

      12. In addition, Kaki is a quite ok singer.

Kaki and Toby are somehow similar to me. Ppl think they are average girls, even ugly.

        I like Kaki’s smile.

      13. @fox

Never liked Toby’s acting, but her features are still alright. But there’s something that looks very tomboy about her that I don’t like. Definitely not lead actress material, but I don’t mind seeing her every now and then. However, in terms of acting, I like Kaki a bit more. The way Toby drags in her speech is quite annoying and it makes her look lazy.

      14. @Fox

How old is Janice Ting? I never watched any dramas with her in it except GMG.

Anyways, the two little girls that played Charmaine (don’t know her english name) and Tavia’s (Kristy Leung) younger versions in BTROC are getting extremely popular, and are now in many upcoming dramas. Also, the little boy (Lawrence Ng) is in many dramas as well, who appeared in BTROC and TMOL.

      15. @Chriselle,
I actually heard that ZhuGeLiang’s wife was beautiful but people just thought that she was ugly. But not sure how accurate it all is. However, if she was ugly, then I actually admire ZhuGeLiang for being able to look beyond the outer appearance.

      16. Wong Yuet Ying – Chukot Leung’s wife is actually one of the 5 ugliest women in China history. But she is very smart and talent.

If I rmb rite, she is also older than Chukot Leung.

      17. Yeah, WYY was one of the 5 Uglies, but, she barely made it. She’s usually the one taken out in the 4 Uglies list. 😀

Actually, HTS is correct too. There are different stories surround WYY’s look. Some versions did indeed say she’s beautiful. One version has her father purposely said she’s ugly to test the prospective groom. Another version said people who are jealous of her spread the false rumour.

Someone also pointed out that the 4 uglies has better end than the 4 beauties.

      18. @HeTieShou For history, there are also legends that come with it so it’s difficult to say if she was pretty or ugly. I guess it really doesn’t matter and if she was actually a pretty gal, then I assume TVB is following legend to add some spice to the drama. We all know that TVB isn’t too historically accurate when it comes to their productions anyway.

@Kidd Lol, I’ve only head of the 4 Beauties in ancient Chinese history. Who are the 4 Uglies?

      19. Lol, too bad this time dun have camera to know how exactly her look is.

      20. @ Chriselle

The 4 Ugly Ladies of Ancient China.

        1) Momu 嫫母
        2) Zhong Lichun (aka Zhong Wuyan) 鍾離春(又稱鍾無鹽)
        3) Meng Guang 孟光
        4) Wife of Eastern Jin’s Xu Yun, daughter of Ruan Dewei 東晉的許允之妻, 阮德慰的女兒

      21. I think maybe they were just plain. Can’t be THAT ugly.

      22. @ Funn

        “Maybe WYY is just plain?’

Dayo Wong doesn’t think she’s ugly. He thinks she’s just hip. 😛

Note: She’s described as having yellow hair and dark skin.

      23. Yellow hair? Dark skin? Maybe she was a foreigner? Could be you know! Or sick.

      24. I think the yellow hair is the light black hair, not the yellow of western girl.

WYY gave birth to 2 sons, so I dun think she is that ill :P.

      25. @Chriselle,
Yea, it actually doesn’t matter if WYY was pretty or not. I think her inside was what mattered more and is what she is remembered for. But if she was ugly, I do admire ZhuGeLiang for being able to judge her beyond her outer appearance.

    2. Chriselle, yeah actually Jess isn’t really a classic beauty. I first watch her in DIE but it was in I Love HK that I found her presence unique and glowing. Her acting is undoubtedly raw and needs more work.

I’m actually fine with Toby and think she’s quite cute; but she doesn’t have that appealing charisma to me.

Oceane has a lot of potential. She’s very young too. If she can work on her Cantonese she might get promoted more.

      1. Jess has her own beauty. Not need everyone to look the same “made in Hongkong” beauty, will be very boring.

      2. Strictly speaking, Jess is not considered beautiful and she was very skinny, very tom boyish, very dark skin, sorta hairy. TRUE!!! Then she gained weight, grew her hair, probably did some hair removal like Gigi Lai did, became kinda fairer, and with age comes wisdom comes the appeal of a mature intelligent professional looking woman and that’s how she looked like in DIF IV.

What is Made In HK? Consummated, born, bred in HK? The fact is MANY of them are not even bred in HK.

      3. Funn, are you mistaking “Jess” as Jessica Hsuan?

It’s Jess Shum here; some newbie ke-le-fe actress..haha

      4. Heh? Yeah lor! I thought you’re talking about Jess as in Hsuan and I was wondering maybe DIE was wrongly spelt and it was diF!

I see! I see!! I shall google her and see who she is.

      5. Ermmm don’t know her. Ok lar, quite pretty, nice body, as usual great hair extensions, fake eyelashes, essential Asian beauty stuff. Quite sharp features. If nothing has been done, then at least she is natural.

        Acting that bad?

Ok now Toby, which Toby? That producer father Toby? Monotone Toby? Or another Toby? How many Tobys are there?!

      6. Jess Shum is really skinny and I didn’t notice that until Show Me the Happy.

@Funn We are talking about Toby Leung here. Yeah, the actress whose father is a producer.

      7. Hahahaaha I knew it :P. Jessica Hsuan wasn’t exactly a classic beauty to me too. She’s attractive in her own way though. She was found on the street(or was it a mall?) by a talent recruiter; surely she has something that attracts the eyes

      8. Toby Leung. Her acting and face has always been criticised but I don’t think she’s that bad.

      9. Ok, Monotone Toby. Her face, not pretty. As the series goes along, she gets worse. But I won’t say she is ugly. She has the body and I remember her legs when she wore short skirts.

But her acting is god awful. Because her voice is so darn monotone. If she can change the frequency level or her tone, you know adjust it or something, she is tolerable. But right now, my answer is NO!

      10. Eh, next time write full name can or not? You know me, I am not a keen follower of all things TVB these days, as opposed to the past so frankly I have no idea who is who. Like Oceane (WHO? Got Lake? Or Swampy?) and Kaki (WHAT? Any Tangan? Kepala? Dada?)

      11. I personally found Toby’s expressions okay, but her speech tone and body language; yeah still need improvement.

      12. Expressions? Got expression, sometimes too much. But her voice… body language… if her father wasn’t a producer, or she is not the daughter of somebody, I don’t think she can even be the one next to the lead which she is now.

      13. But I find her more bearable than… shirley yeung. I can’t stand Shirley Yeung and I meant THAT shirley “I was bullied by Sonija and Charmaine during filming” Yeung

      14. @Funn

I agree, but since she’s getting married to a wealthy man, I guess we won’t be seeing her that often anymore.

      15. @ Funn

Oceane Zhu – Zhu Xuan (that mandarin speaking girl in 7 Days)
Kaki Leung – Leung Ka Ki (Sammul’s wife in E.U)

      16. @Funn You mean during the filming of Angels of Mission? I heard that Sonija and Charmaine are best of friends and didn’t get along with Shirley during filming, but I never knew why. All three of them seems easy to get along with so I don’t understand why there are problems, but I was always curious. Can anyone shed more light into this rumor?

Shirley isn’t a very good actress and even since she won Best Supporting Actress in 2006, she has pretty much faded into the background. She has always been given the same cute, loud, and obnoxious characters which is difficult to like. They tend to get boring over time too. I think her voice makes most of the roles she portrays annoying. It’s hoarse. Nowadays, we hardly even see her as she’s getting into her 30s. However, from the magazines, I heard that she is making lots of money from real estate…

However, I will always remember her role in Brink of Law, playing the evil and selfish woman… it was really a change from the usual cutie we see.

      17. I refer to the term “made in HK” Dayo used in You’re hire.

I dun think Jess’s acting is that bad :).

And I also dun think Toby is that bad, hehe.

      18. @Funn Yeah, I was referring to Toby as the one getting married, not Shirley. Sorry, it was confusing as I didn’t see your comment about Shirley when I typed the comment about Toby getting married.

      19. @Funn,
Don’t all actresses get permanent hair removal done? I don’t think they have the time to shave or wax their unwanted body hair everyday. Even normal citizens get that done if they have the money to so actresses definately would. Was Jessica hairy back then?? I did not know that…

      20. Can’t speak for all but Jess certainly looked like it. Gigi Lai definitely looked like it, and fairer as well.

      21. @Fox, Tavia didn’t bother to get a new haircut for MOL which is why it was pretty plain. But her character didn’t require her to get a fancy hairdo because her family was poor and she didn’t need to look spectacular. In HOG, she was different and was the wife of a wealthy businessman before she fell in love with Bosco. Tavia just let her hair grew out after Moonlight Resonance which is why I didn’t like her cut in MOL.

I didn’t know it bothered me so much, but the character’s haircut does matter and so does their wardrobe in the series. Too bad in recent series, the characters doesn’t have much of a wardrobe. My favorite was Myolie’s in Rippling Blossom, but TVB never has any sponsored attires anymore. I miss War of In-Laws II because of their amazing wardrobe!

    3. @Fox and fox

Err, just wondering…..are you two the same person? LOL…

  25. somebody mentioned idy chan , so i just has to make this comment.
    IDY CHAN <333333333333333

    1. I think Idy was a beauty back then but she did not age very well…

  26. I think jessica, kenix kwok, ada choi, flora chan and maggie cheung much better than diz four beauties.

    1. Haha, most people agree, but this is a completely different generation we’re talking about here. It’s almost pointless to compare them since we know we can’t have them back for various reasons. Most of them have moved on with their lives and are either married or have children.

    2. I bet viewers of 80s TVB series will say Margie Tsang, Idy Chan, Jamie Chik, Kitty Lai and Yammie Lam are much better than Jessica, Kenix Kwok, Ada Choi, Flora Chan and Maggie Cheung.

Every generation is like this. 🙂

      1. Liza Wang, Louise Lee, Michelle Yim, Susanna Au Yeung, Cecilia Wong, Gigi Wong, Angie Chiu, Cora Miu.

      2. Liza was quite a beauty when she was young. She has a poised and strong type of beauty. Coincidentally I just logged on to my weibo and greeted with kuangaitvb’s made up photo of young Liza with current Bosco hahah. Liza was quite beautiful.

Yesterday she celebrated her 40th years of working with TVB. Time flies fast.

      3. Louise Lee was a Miss Hong Kong :D. Believe it or not hahah.

      4. @ Masaharu

You are slightly mistaken. Louise Lee was not a Miss HK. She’s a Hong Kong Princess. 😀
The pageant she took part in was ‘Hong Kong Princess’.

      5. Need to add another 70s actress. Candice Yu.

She plays Princess Fragrance in the 1976 ‘Book & Sword’.

      6. Honestly, those in 80s look better now than those in 90s. Those in 70s still look better than those in 80s. So on and so forth. Candice Yu still looks fantastic from what I remember.

      7. Louisse is HK princess, a kind of MHK but not the MHK title that TVB made.

      8. Thanks Kidd. All along I thought she holds the MHK title. A Hong Kong Princess huh 😀

      9. Ms. Hk started in 1973. I think Louise got Ms. HK princess in 1972 if I remember correctly.

I love the actresses from the 70s and 80s and feel that many of the actresses today from TVB just don’t possess that type of beauty… Liza was a beauty back and has aged pretty well. Angie Chiu is a timeless beauty and looks great at her age.

      10. From my perception Liza and Louise has poise and elegant beauty back in their youths.

Many of the current actresses possess cuteness such as Fala Chen and Linda Chung.

      11. But it may also has to do with the current trend. The other Asian countries are also producing many “cute” actresses.

      12. Were Liza and Louise that beautiful? I didn’t think so. But both were acting powerhouse.

      13. In my view, Liza was never a beauty :P. Her face dun change much when she was young up to now.

I’m watching a very old series where she is called a beauty and frankly, I don’t think so.

Maybe she is not my cup of tea, therefore I don’t find the girls who look similar to her include Maggie Cheung (Ho Yin) and Tavia Yeung pretty or beautiful. They may look elegant, but not pretty and beautiful in my view. But I think Giselda Yeung and Kirten Yeung are beautiful.

Mary Hon was such a beauty :P.

      14. @Fox Since Griselda and Tavia are sisters, I wonder if Griselda were given a chance to shine in a series, would her acting to good. In her acting career, she has always been given ke-le-fe roles and there’s not much to comment about her acting. Tavia is getting prettier as she ages and the short hair looks amazing on her. Griselda also has a certain charm, but her choice is actually a little squeaky/girly. I’m afraid it can be annoying if she cries excessively.

      15. It’s Gilselda’s fault to not being promoted. Who tell her to say such thing after the MHK. She was arrogant and has been paid for this immature comment.

I think Tavia looks the best during 2004-2007. Now she looks old to my view. Older than her real age 32.

      16. @Fox

Really? Tavia and Maggie look nothing like Liza in my opinion…

Oh, and apparently, Liza Wang and Michael Miu’s wife (the one who played Connie in Born Rich) doesn’t have a good relationship or something. They were known to have slapped each other really hard in the face years back when they were filming.

        @Chriselle

Yeah, it’s true how Griselda was never given any main role. But perhaps it’s because she didn’t exactly want them either? She does always seem to have other jobs other than the entertainment industry. Unlike Tavia, she isn’t exactly a full-time actress. I remember the first time I saw Griselda was in Forensic Heroes I. I never even knew she was Tavia’s sister until like, a year later or something.

      17. Watch Awakening story and you will know why I say so. Tavia has big role in this one because she looks alike Liza.

LMAO, one of my friends saw the poster of Fight the light and she thought it’s Liza in the poster.

      18. I thought Tavia was pretty. Not elegantly beautiful but pretty until the recent 2-3 years when her age caught up.

Mary Hon isn’t my cup of tea. She looks a bit gaunt to me. I think Kristy Yeung is pretty and sweet.

      19. @Fox Yeah, I heard how arrogant she was back then although I didn’t get the chance to read the exact news article on it. She said something along the lines that she will be promoted to TVB fadan within 3 years. In terms of personality, the two Yeung sisters are also different. According to Tavia who said she was more reserved and quiet during her school days, her sister was more involved in drama and everything at her school. Therefore, Tavia took the more passive route in the TVB Acting Class while Griselda joined MHK where she had the chance to shine. Personally, I feel that she could’ve won 3rd place as the standards that year were pretty low. Other than Shirley, she was the prettiest though Heidi Chu really shined during her interviews.

But it’s not entirely Griselda’s fault for thinking this way. Someone on this blog commented that Angelababy’s popularity at such an early age is giving her head and she’s quite arrogant and I quite agree with that statement. When we experience success so early on, we don’t treasure it as much and we take it for granted. Personally, I don’t feel that Angelababy has done that much to deserve her fame other than modeling and looking pretty. It’s her profession, but it’s not necessarily considered talent. It’s probably the same for Griselda as she had enormous confidence in herself as opposed to her more modest sister.

@sure-lee I believe Griselda had side jobs outside of TVB after she knew there was no chance of TVB promoting her after a few years. I believe she has her own shop now, co-owned with a couple of her friends. Thus, it’s the other way around; when TVB didn’t want her, she invested outside of the circle.

Although Tavia and Griselda have a good relationship together, I always wondered if the older sister was envious of what the younger achieved.

      20. Haha, I think Tavia looks quite elegant in ancient series. But Sonija and Gigi are the ones who I can put the world “elegant” to describer them.

I think Michelle Yip is quite elegant, too. She looks smart.

      21. The current Tavia doesn’t age gracefully. she looks mature beyond her years. Since Griselda Yeung never caught my attention I don’t know to describe her pretty or beauty or else.

Sonija is beautiful but haunted with scandals. She always have a worried face in her dramas from my observation. Gigi is pretty for my eyes.

      22. Gigi Lai I mean. Gigi Leung is quite pretty too. She has a modern woman prettiness to her.

      23. Angelababy is a langmo and in HKer’s mind, langmo are brainless. So whatever she says, they don’t mind. And Angelababy is only truly famous after her date with HXM.

Gilselda dun have the advantages that Angelababy has. She was just in top 5 of MHK.

Wasn’t Heidi Chu from the same year with Kate (2004)?

I’m quite surprise to know that Tavia is quiet and reserved. I always think she is tomboy and kinda bubble head. Maybe the entertainment circle changed her. Gilselda on the other hand, give me the feeling that she is quite calm.

      24. But Fox you gotta admit Liza grew old gracefully. Look at what Dodo Cheng did to her own face. And look at Liza, wrinkles and all.

      25. Is this the Griselda you’re all talking about?

        http://wiki.d-addicts.com/File:Griseldayeung.png

If you didn’t tell me I wouldn’t know she and Tavia are related. Frankly Tavia’s face has more character and moldable, however annoying her crying may be.

Like Nikki Chow and her sister, the model? Now that her sister is prettier.

      26. @ Kidd: No. I’m watching a series where Liza is just a guest. The main chacs are Eddie Kwan and Kathy Chow. Its name is The sword of conquest, watching it :P.

@ Masaharu: I think she aged the most in the area around her eyes. I heard that she is using botox to avoid the wrinkles and keep her chin small. Dunno it’s true or not. If it’s true, then maybe it’s why I think her mouth when she cries look weird.

      27. I read Griselda’s interview before. I remember she said give her 3 years and she will success. I remember thinking ‘Die lah. She’s speak too arrogantly. If she didn’t succeed, it will look very bad on her’. 3 years is too short a time to succeed even for MHK winners, let alone top 5 only. But, I still hope she will succeed at that time because I saw her in Survivor’s Law and felt that she can act.

      28. @ Kidd: Yes, I had the same feeling. Griselda wasn’t extremely beautiful or talented. She was ok looking, no acting basis and nothing to support her career. Her sister joined TVB 3 years before her and in 2001, she (Tavia) is still supporting artist, in B-list. What make she was so arrogant like this?

      29. I think she didn’t quite understand how TVB works didn’t she? It’s not if she wants to succeed but if THEY want YOU to succeed, something her sister was better at learning.

      30. So I checked on Griselda and I find her looks not my cup of tea. Maybe that’s why I didn’t notice her because she doesn’t stand out at me. Imho Tavia(the 20 something Tavia) is prettier than her.

      31. @Fox Speaking of her best years 2004-2007, you reminded me how pretty she was in Heart of Greed. I love her hair and straight bangs. Short hair makes an actress look more mature?

      32. @ Chriselle: Oh I think HOG is her best time. Full blossom.

Not the short or long hair. Short hair made Sharon Chan looks young and fresh. Tavia’s long hair in MOL also dun look pretty to me.

However, all the time, I dun think Tavia looks anything too special to me. I dun like woman with long face. Not the oval face, the long face. Tavia’s acting is kinda good but she is not a beauty, in my view.

And I forgot to mention that I think Griselda is beautiful in CBML, not BTROC.

      33. “I think Griselda looks prettier with good make up. Her role in BTROC gives me this feeling.”

When was she ever in BTROC? Do you mean in CBML?

      34. I think that Tavia Yeung started looking pretty in the recent years, maybe from 2007 and on. Before, her face looked pretty different, esp. in The Academy and her roles before that, such as The Awakening Story…etc.

      35. @ sure-lee: I edited. I mean CBML. Mistaken it with BTROC.

  27. For some odd reason, I feel that many of the actresses of today just don’t have the beauty that the 70s and 80s actresses have…. I think it is just me feeling nostalgic again…

  28. Myolie Wu is one of the Four Beauties, you must be kidding. I’m sorry to say it but she is the least attractive one of the four. I find her unattractive whatsoever and really annoys me whenever i watch her series, therefore i tried not to watch series with her in it. TVB really set their standards low nowadays in term of beauty.

    1. I would have to agree with you on this, sorry to Myolie fans. But after watching TRB, I find her slightly better.
