Bobby Au Yeung: “Esther Kwan is Not a Diva!”

Working together again after more than a decade, Esther Kwan (關詠荷) and Bobby Au Yeung (歐陽震華) were reported to be at odds with each other on the set of Love Reverses Three Lifetimes of Fate <情逆三世緣>. Known to have a poor memory and often forgetting his lines, Bobby had numerous outtakes, which reportedly irked Esther and prevented her from getting off work early to take care of her 6-year-old daughter, Brittany.

Esther allegedly told the press, “Like his past habits, Bobby has as many outtakes. He will just haphazardly insert random words into his lines and call it a done job!” Tabloids further reported that Bobby took a long time to set his hair prior to filming, adding to Esther’s impatience. Esther was spotted ignoring Bobby on the set and had zero communications with him.

Filming at Kowloon Walled City Park on January 19, Bobby immediately dismissed the rumors as rubbish and said that he and Esther got along well on the set.

“Esther’s daughter is already a big girl and very active. She doesn’t need anyone to look after her all the time. There is also an auntie to help take care of her,” Bobby explained. Regarding claims that Esther acted like a diva and treated him coldly, Bobby said, “She doesn’t need to act like a diva because she is already a big star! I’m also a big star! These titles are just given and will not be used to bully others!”

Bobby added that Esther was very generous in treating the cast and crew to a meal in Sai Kung, spending $10,000 HKD. Regarding Esther’s reported fee of $50,000 HKD per episode to to film the 30-episode Love Reverses Three Lifetimes of Fate, Bobby laughed, “That cheap? We wouldn’t be able to hire Esther for that price. It will cost at least $500,000 HKD per episode!”

Christine Kuo (苟芸慧) revealed that Bobby and Esther got along well on set, despite the differences in their work styles. “Esther is able to recite the script without forgetting any words, but Bobby is more free and will rely on his feelings at the time. Although their methods are different, they have great chemistry together!”

  1. I thought that Bobby and Esther are known to be really good friends so I am guessing that things were just blown out of proportion. Hope that they will continue to film together in the future.

  2. HK media loves to magnify things. Esther and Bobby are known to be long time close/best friends along with Nick Cheung. Maybe cause they’re considered the “oldies” the new young-lings of HK media were just unaware of their friendship.

  3. The media wants their own attention just to feed themselves and their kinds.
