[Celebrity Weddings] Gillian Chung and Michael Lai Register Marriage in Hong Kong
Although Gillian Chung (鍾欣潼) and Taiwanese doctor Michael Lai (賴國弘) held their wedding celebration in Los Angeles this May, the couple didn’t officially register their marriage until today. At a waterfront restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui, Gillian wed Michael in a romantic outdoor ceremony. The couple kissed deeply and signed the papers under the crowd’s cheers.
The bride looked beautiful in a delicate pale pink dress with burgundy flowers. Glowing with happiness, Gillian lost 10 pounds through a rigorous exercise regimen to look her fittest on her wedding day.
The 100 guests included the couple’s parents and family members, as well as Gillian’s boss EEG founder Albert Yeung (楊受成), and her friends from the company. Mani Fok (霍汶希), Joey Yung (容祖兒), Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), Yumiko Cheng (鄭希怡), Leo Ku (古巨基), and Kenny Kwan (關智斌), who treated Gillian like a sister, said, “We don’t want you to get married!” But Gillian replied, “I want you guys to get married sooner!”
A tea ceremony was held afterwards at the restaurant, in which Gillian and Michael knelt down to serve tea as the elders gave their blessings. When it was Albert Yeung’s turn, he warned Michael, “You have to treat her well; if not, you don’t need to come to Hong Kong [again].” Working together for 17 years, Mr. Yeung saw Gillian as his own daughter, and will be paying for the couple’s Hong Kong wedding banquet held on December 20.
After the celebration concluded at 10 p.m., Gillian and Michael emerged from the restaurant to chat with the press. Michael said, “Thank you everyone. I’m very happy to sign papers and officially get married with my wife.” Gillian said to reporters, “I know everyone worked hard today and waited to speak to us for a long time. Thank you everyone for your blessings. We’ll see you again on the 20th. I really want to cry now!”
