Hugo Ng and Grace Chan to Have Incestuous Storyline in “Brother’s Keeper 2”

The ratings for Brother’s Keeper 2 <巨輪II> have been falling pretty hard. Despite it getting a decent start, viewership ratings are threatening to slip below 20 points. Critics are shaking their heads at the drama’s inconsistent storytelling and weak plot. Netizens are calling the show boring, and the actors, unimpressive.

But viewers haven’t completely abandoned Brother’s Keeper 2 yet. In a recent spoiler leak, it’s been revealed that the drama will delve into a controversial relationship between two of its main characters—incest—and that will definitely get people talking.

According to the leak, the show’s main villain Ko Tin-tsau (played by Hugo Ng 吳岱融) used to, and still does, sexually abuse his adopted daughter Nana (played by Grace Chan 陳凱琳). This was the main reason to why Nana made the decision to leave Hong Kong for a career in Okinawa, Japan at the beginning of the series. Aside from watching Nana take her shower, Ko Tin-tsau will also rape Nana in a future episode.

With such controversial content, many viewers questioned why Brother’s Keeper 2 was given the 8:30 primetime broadcast slot. Grace, however, said that while the topic is quite bold, its explicitness will not be played on the screen.

She said, “I think Overachievers <商戰> was a lot more explosive!” (Worried that viewers will feel uncomfortable?) “No. It’s just part of the story.”

In Overachievers, also Grace’s debut drama, her character Abby was raped by her ex-boyfriend, portrayed by Gary Tam (譚偉權). In the scene, Grace was dragged to the floor and pushed against a wall.

“You won’t see a scene like that for this show,” reassured Grace.

Asking if she had asked her boyfriend, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎), for help on how to approach the difficult scene, Grace said, “He has told me to relax and try my best.”

    1. @coralie Heavy flavor won’t save this doomed series. It’s doomed from inception when it dropped Sam as the main character and chose edwin and Grace to lead. Thank god Ruco only guest starred.

      1. @isay Not just the heavy taste and not because of the inclusion of Grace or anyone in particular. The drama sucks because 1) they’re pulling all kinds of cheap tricks in order to milk this drama for all it’s worth – I mean they’re famous for using rape for a ratings hike & now incest 2) they are pumping the drama using popular source material without respect to the plot; they just don’t care.

They could really take a leaf from Kdrama producers – look at Moonlight Drawn By Clouds that’s airing now. In order to maintain the integrity of the plot and respect its source material, the producers have decided to keep the drama with its original intended end and not extend it further (even though it’s hugely popular). Even IF they decide to create a sequel, it’s usually done well because they care about quality.

TVB has done none of the above. All it does is pull cheap tricks to milk everything they have to dry, parched death. Sorry for the rant.

      2. @coralie its not just production but also the group of actor/actresses at tvb. Can you think of 1 person that have the acting chop of KYJ from moonlight at her age at tvb? I know I can’t. Even the older group can’t act as well as her.

      3. @happybi lol to be fair KYJ had almost a decade of experience in dramas – she’s a child actress.

she’s young but she’s had more experience than most tvb actresses so far

      4. @happybi i feel they have a structuring/promoting problem, not a training problem. they mostly throw Ms HK contestants into the acting pool immediately after they finish their ambassador duties, but the rest of the acting crew at TVB actually have to crawl their way up.

The issue with TVB is that they don’t promote the right people within the right frame of time or they just don’t provide a lot of opportunities for them to grow after. take Tavia, for example. it took her forever to get to a lead role and then thereafter, her roles took a nosedive once she got TV Queen. not one single breakout hit after.

actors and actresses at TVB don’t get to pick their projects but KYJ and a lot of actors/actresses in korea do. that’s where they excel.

but of course, this training/promoting/structuring issue is just one amongst a mountain of issues that TVB needs to improve on. and without competition, i’m afraid that they’ll just stay complacent.

      5. @coralie tvb just don’t care. With no competition they feel they can do whatever they want. And they wonder why people no longer want to watch tvb drama and go for kdrama? Hk movies and series used to be so dominate in the asian market, now….its on the bottom…

      6. @coralie i feel you. That’s why i said heavy flavour won’t save this drama. Tvb is famous for adding heavy flavour just as some cheap desperate move to draw some attention and create something for the media to write about.

  1. Grace is the worst lead actress tvb has ever promoted. No one watches BK2 becos of her. Horrible noise pollution from her, kristal and hugo. This drama is doomed, incestuous storyline or not.

  2. Poor BK2. They are trying to take on SVU now? Lol. Still not going to watch after the grand finale.

  3. Yet another failed sequel from TVB. Surprise surpise. They really should be banned from making any sequels lol. They really seem to screw them up lately.

  4. BK2 lost viewers bc the main lead Ruco isn’t even here. then you add in Grace Chan to the mix there’s no more appeal to the show. I don’t get why this is even a sequel the timeline is alrdy messed up. And srsly TVB needs to get a fix on their “rape” story lines. It doesn’t make people want to watch it!
Law and Disorder is much more interesting with superb acting and editting.

  5. You have Kristal running for BA with the slapping scene and Grace with the rape scene.

Such strong candidates! Should be easy for Nancy.

    1. @tiffany It’s never easy for Nancy. Because TVB obviously favors Kristal and Grace over Nancy anytime. Regardless of how viewers responds…..

  6. Technically, it’s not incest since she’s adopted, so that’s a misleading title right there, and Grace’s character didn’t get raped in Overachievers..?

  7. Blacklist that girl. She can’t act!!! Chickenvoice!! Really anoying. Story can be good if they cast better. Mat and hugo is great!!! Ruco and Linda apearances was defnitily de best!!!

    Just fridge that Grace Chan!!
    Drama 20 points!!!

  8. aww..now it just looks desparate…incestuous rape? really? boring storyline and Grace Chan/Sisley Choi/Linda Chung means utterly doomed..Linda Chung was saved a few times by being paired with good actors but if the plot makes me snooze then I’ll just skip it as well. I mean, actors used to have to have looks and some skill, even as a beginner. The older actresses at their worst were better than these new ones at their best..If they took acting classes I can’t tell..tvb needs to have stricter rules and stardard of quality before unleashing their acting skills or lack thereof to the rest of the world..come on TVB , get your act together…the only series I enjoyed in quite a while is Fist of Fury..it was just fun.

  9. wth? …just caught new episode..Grace Chan’s character has an incurable but treatable disease and future rape scene yet I don’t feel bad for her, must be the crappy acting..*sigh* I’m just watching to see if Louis Yuen’s character is truly dead..pathetic how he has such a small role & yet the only character in the series that is endearing rather than boring.
