Mat Yeung Makes First Court Appearance For DUI Offense

On the morning of August 8, 2020, TVB actor Mat Yeung (楊明) crashed his vehicle into a stone curb which was built some 80 years ago, before World War II. Because Mat refused to take a breathalyzer test and provide a blood sample, he was arrested on the spot in suspicion of DUI. Mat made his first court appearance for the case on November 6, 2020.

Dressed in black, Mat swam through reporters to enter the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts in Sai Wan Ho on Friday morning. His girlfriend, Lisa Ch’ng (莊思明), was also with him.

According to sources, Mat is being charged with three counts of misdemeanors, including illegal window tinting of his vehicle, refusal to provide a blood sample, and careless driving. He is being represented by barrister Cheng Huan (清洪).

Mat will attend a second hearing on December 11, 2020. The judge has approved time for the defendant to gather evidence, witnesses, and medical documents to be presented in court.

A bail, worth $5,000 Hong Kong dollars, was also approved for Mat, but the chief magistrate also added that he must meet certain bail conditions, such as submitting his home address to police.
