Did Yang Mi Split Up With Wei Daxun?

Rumored to be a pair since 2019, Yang Mi (杨幂) and Wei Daxun (魏大勋) were speculated to have been co-habiting, with the two spotted leaving a condo one after another. Their social media posts indicated that they shared the same bowl of dumplings while eating at home. However, the duo are said to have already recently split, even before going official.

Low-profile Dating Did Not Sit Well With His Parents

Yang Mi and Wei Daxun’s unexpected split was supposedly due to the actor’s parents pressuring him into marriage, as they think he ought to settle down at 32 years old.

The idea of entering a second marriage understandably did not sit well with Yang Mi, as the power actress naturally prioritized her career first. Her confidence in marriage had also been shaken by her divorce with Hawick Lau (刘恺威), and their custody fight over their daughter. To worsen matters, the media often cast Yang Mi as an inadequate mother.

It was said that Wei Daxun decided to follow his parents’ suggestion and break up with Yang Mi, who had also long refused to go public with their relationship, much to his disappointment.

Telltale Signs

On his 32nd birthday in April, Wei Daxun posted his single “Later” <后来的后来>, whose melancholy song lyrics about “definitely needing to say goodbye” may have expressed his dejected feelings.

Yang Mi did not make any apparent plans to celebrate the actor’s birthday either. It was a stark contrast to a year ago when she especially flew to visit Wei Daxun at his filming set, and had speedily rushed into a camper van to avoid the gawking media. That evening, the couple had a romantic dinner and even shared an ice cream before returning to the hotel.

Wei Daxun had been a fan of Yang Mi since he was 17, and did not hide his affection for her after entering the industry, often leaving supportive, adoring comments on her social media. Sharp netizens even realized the two had been gaming online until 2 a.m. on Chinese Valentine’s Day, and it became telling when both stars promptly hung up when contacted for verification.

While Yang Mi had always been Wei Daxun’s “cup of tea,” the same could not be said for him. Yang Mi had professed to be a fan girl of Nicholas Tse (谢霆锋), who was the cool and domineering type similar to Hawick. In the past, she had a preference for someone older, with a mature aura, whereas Wei Daxun was more of the caring, pandering type.

  1. Sad to to read about the breakup. I have hope Yang Mi will get her happiness and Wei Daxun seems like a nice guy and not so high profile. His image is so different from Hawick.

    1. @kidd
I actually feel Yang Mi should stay single as she seems more like a career woman. Relationships and marriage does not seem to suit her.

      1. @hetieshou Whenever people say that, it sounds as if she divorced because she is a career woman, too busy for the family. I really disagree because even if she is a stayed home mom, her ex husband has always been as busy as her. He also has no time for her and the child, it wouldn’t be a complete family anyways. Also, her ex husband was caught cheating, the evidence was too clear. The marriage had a fall out that led to divorce. Whether she chose act or not, the marriage was bounded to fail. Then, there’s also the problem of them both not spending time with the child alike. He only tried to be there a little more for his child after his scandal. Was she supposed to compete with him and try to be there for the child during her fall out with him? For her situation, I would agree with her decision leaving the child. Sharing custody is a hateful thing to many people, it constantly hurts a child because they can be wishing their real parents will reunite after every visit. They would be hurt each time the parents refusing to unite. They will have hard time accepting new parents. That is only torturing. If the parents cannot forgive each other and stay married, some parents would only either get full custody or just leave completely and appear as little as possible. Sharing means, each visit is a nightmare. I respect YM for walking out of the child’s life, instead of trying to win sympathy from the public that she is trying to be a good mother after being absence since the beginning, she chose to walk out. For her situation, the child will not suffer under either parents considering how rich both of them are. It’s probably best that either one of them should let go.

There are also too many actresses like YM who do not even spend time with their child at all. There are even ones that actually divorced because they are too busy, their husband didn’t cheat or anything but the reason to divorce was purely because of being busy alone. Those people got it way easier than YM. To win sympathy, there are even people trying to bring their child to shoot dramas so they can claim being a career woman and mother at the same time.
Just because the media is too free to paint YM in any ways they want. If YM wants to market herself like a clean woman, she would buy writers to say she is an inspiring divorced woman. Her IQ is high enough to know that divorce is a painful and bad thing, not a thing to do unless the marriage really can’t go on.

      2. @yoyo Well said! I can’t easily pop out children and still trying. My cousin was quick to judge I was career woman that was reason why I haven’t had kids yet. My cousin drop out of university went to college for hotel management and wedding planning. She has two daughters but lives at her in law home because can’t afford to buy a place. I have a decent paid career and own two properties. The plan is my second property will be use for my future child education or down payment for their home. That is why I work hard in my career so that future child wouldn’t be under disadvantaged. Maybe Yangmi is similar and like Yoyo said it is hard for the child to have constantly think there is a chance she can get her parents back together. Her career is in China. Being actors and actresses their job requires then constantly travel so they have to leave the child to a grandparent to allow a stable learning environment. Besides nowadays with technology there is zoom etc. My husband works out of town except he comes back every second weekend. However he is a guy no one would blame him except people made my husband who is an UofT pharmacist sound like a loser. If it was the other way around people would accused me of being career woman.

      3. @yoyo don’t mind hetieshou. She hates women and condemns for the slightest things. Not much vitriol from her about the men. Just ignore her. I’ve learned to do that.

  2. Well, since they were never public about this…it will just be speculation. I hope their all the best in their love life…

  3. The thing with Yang Mi is she’s way too famous… She really does have to be willing to sacrifice a bit for personal life. But I think she can’t let that go. Not that it’s her fault. But she’d have to find someone who’s like her, that’s willing to put their career first to understand her. Not everyone has the same path.
