Natalie Tong Blamed for Eliza Sam’s Departure from TVB

Eliza Sam‘s (岑麗香) departure from TVB may not be as simple as it seems. Tabloids claim that Eliza was upset by Natalie Tong for taking her role in upcoming drama, The Solution Expert <解決師>, and thus decided not to renew her expired contract.

While promoting her new drama Succession War <天命>, Natalie responded to the tabloid claims that she had wrestled the lead role from Eliza. “That’s too exaggerated, [the tip] definitely didn’t come from industry insiders. My work is decided by a group of people [at meetings]. I was selected [for the role].” She joked that viewers had watched too many palace scheming dramas and had overactive imaginations.

Getting to know Eliza better after working on a travelogue program with her, Natalie said, “I thought whether we’ll have a chance to film a series together. This industry is very small!” Unclear about all the details behind Eliza’s decision to leave TVB, Natalie said, “There is privacy for each person’s choice.”

Also at the Succession War promotion today, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) commented on the disputes with his previous landlord. His mother had fallen over a loose floorboard that the landlord did not fix.  Ruco allowed his lawyer to do all the followup on the case, “We have already discussed what is suitable and legal to do under the circumstances.” Feeling upset that tabloids had deliberately twisted the situation out of proportion, Ruco said, “This incident gave me stress that I should earn more money to become a property owner.”

    1. @jimmyszeto Eliza is both a crap actress and unlikeable, IMO. Cannot stand her cheesy smile and cutesy/over-animated persona (acting?).

Natalie is much more bearable to me, but not exactly leading material either.

  1. while i can’t really judge her acting but Natalie’s definatly not lead actress material. there’s just something about her that makes her have the 2nd line actress vibe. i know she works hard and may have good ethics but just don’t think she can carry an entire drama on her own.

    1. @m0m0 it’s her look and the vibe she puts out I think. She has a mature look rather than cutesy look? Quite a few actress has the cutest look, but as they age, they manage to make their look pretty and mature. Natalie has always just mature. She never changed her hair either! And she gives a b1tchy/fighting to the end sour kinda vibe if you know what I mean. I just don’t ever buy her as a good girl type. She is really boring to watch. Comparing her to Tavia, who when I first saw her, didn’t think much about her look, but Tavia’s acting blow me away. Tavia can do crying scene so well, it moves you and she can be cute or mature, she’s so versatile!

And before anyone gonna jump on me commenting on their look, they are actresses, when you don’t know their acting, the look comes first, it comes with the job. If you are good, overtime you can turn even the harshest critic! And if you are bad, we tend to come back to look because that’s like the number one quality of the actress to get hired these days!

  2. Not sure, but Natalie definitely is not lead actress material at all. It’s probably the way she present herself, average activing skills. Definitely not a house name… Eliza might be the average in her acting but, she is quicker to become a house name overall.

  3. Both aren’t leading material.

Regardless of whether this incident is factual, I believe Elisa’s acting career won’t exceed TVB. Elisa reminds me of Bernice Liu. Bernice’s acting and command of Cantonese and Mandarin exceed Elisa, has accomplished more than Elisa at TVB and beyond, yet her acting career hasn’t taken off (and likely never will). Elisa stands no chance at this point.

It’s a good idea that she is leaving the industry entirely. I hope she never comes back as an actress.

    1. @anon
Can imagine Eliza at 40 if stayed at TVB. Playing the daughter role who had studied abroad. Emphasizing every word of Cantonese like she was reading directly from the paper script…

  4. Highly doubt it. Perhaps there was an audition or maybe it is true, her manager helped her wrestle the character away. But I don’t think someone will break a contract over 1 role

  5. Natalie is the least memorable Best Actress and lack lead actress material… Let’s see if she can hold down as leading actress in these upcoming drama 白色強人, 天命 and 解決師!! It wouldn’t surprise me that other lead actresses steal the light… we’ll see. Hope she will surprise us…Wish her luck.

  6. She is not bad looking and can be called a pretty girl actually but acting wise she’s just boring. I wouldn’t put too much thought into TV queen award/title at all esp the ones from TVB. I just don’t their standards on them getting an award as it all seems so fake. Just like how Kenneth Ma spells BORING in this forehead no matter what role he portrays same can be said about this NT. I don’t know how else to explain it but they are just boring to watch. She is the female version and Kenneth Ma is the male version of BORING…..haha lol…..But then again I can also say the same thing as Ron Ng, can’t really pinpoint on why as Ron Ng is much cuter than KM but still he’s also not very memorable onscreen or it’s just me. lol..
