Arthur Chen’s Intimate Photos are Leaked

Renowned Chinese director Chen Kaige’s (陳凱歌) son Arthur Chen, 22, (陳飛宇) has been nicknamed as the “Most Handsome Second Generation Celebrity”. After making his debut in the entertainment industry, he quickly shot to fame and appeared in Lighter and Princess <打火机与公主裙> and is the upcoming boys’ love drama Immortality <皓衣行>. Yesterday, Arthur’s intimate bed photos with influencer Yi Lin (是亦琳呀) were leaked on the Internet. As rumors of Arthur cheating with a married woman spread, the photos immediately became trending searches.

Lying in bed in deep sleep, the man in the photos was topless from the waist up. The woman took the selfie while resting on his shoulder and her full face was not visible. Netizens pointed out that the mole at the corner of the man’s lip was 99 percent similar to Arthur’s features.

It is said that Arthur and Yi Lin started dating since 2021, and were witnessed having numerous rendezvous at a Changsha hotel. With 210,000 social media followers, Yi Lin graduated as a top student from Tsinghua University. Although four years older than Arthur, she has a youthful face. Since 2017, she has been  Arthur’s fan and was seen following him in a fan cam.

Netizens were shocked by the pair’s bed photos, especially since Li Yin is already married. In a leaked audio clip, Arthur’s studio manager was heard claiming that Arthur was set up. They allegedly only went to bed once, but Li Yin took photos to threaten him to continue seeing her and demanded he avoid filming dramas with certain actresses. Her new boyfriend started asked for money, and Arthur’s mother considered paying 2 million Chinese yuan to get back the photos, but the negotiation fell through. Li Yin’s husband later sold the photos to a tabloid.

Last night, Arthur’s studio issued an official statement  stating that Arthur and Li Yin were both single when they were dating. Li Yin’s company’s official statement also shared that it was a mutual agreement to break up, and she only got married one year later to her current husband.

  1. He is young and have been in relationships. I personally hate anyone taking photo of anyone who is sleeping and unaware. It is an invasion of a person’s privacy, even for a dating couple. It will not surprise me if Arthur is not even aware of it. And the photos shocked him too. I read there may even be a video. Gosh, I hope no and we will see no more release.
But for the young woman’s current husband to share such images is illegal. I hope he faces prosecution. I hope Arthur’s career will not be blacklisted for this… he had done no wrong when the photos were taken. Both were single when they were dating.
I wonder how much damage has this actually cost him?

  2. Great choice of husband, selling his wife’s intimate photos with another man…

  3. Aiyo poor guy. If he really got together with her when she was single, then he didn’t do anything wrong and got violated with these pics. I hope they catch whoever the perp is and make them do jail time.

  4. I don’t think he will be blacklisted because of this. Perhaps his image has been negatively affected for now, especially to his fans who fantasize that all their idols are celibate monks. But given his background, he should be able to make a comeback after lying low for a while to let it blow over.

  5. As usual, there are other “leaked” info online now but uncertain which is true and which is not, including they had never dated/ she was already attached or married when they started sleeping together/ she and her then boyfriend turned husband set him up/ her husband tried to blackmail him with the photos/ her husband sold the photos to paparazzi.
If they were both single, unattached and got together (dating or whatever) willingly, why is this a scandal?

    1. unrelated to this, saw a clip mentioning that the central tv station website has a released an article commenting on actors’ “illiteracy” and their lack of ability in understanding the scripts and the roles they portray. Though no names were mentioned but it is highly speculated that the article was referring to LHC, ZLS and especially WYB. Some netizens also think that the article was referring to artists like RJL and JJY.

      1. @BearBear lol! what the heck do they base their opinions on other than poor acting? (I def agree on WYB, JJY, RJL. Not sure who LHC is.) But ZLS can act – she’s typecasted, but I’ve seen her in other roles and she has never failed those portrayals.

      2. LOL, these videos with this chick who comments on C entertainment point it out in one of videos. The illiteracy of WYB was jaw dropping. I wonder if he ever went to school. Regardless, I don’t think one should link education and acting together. Many veteran HK celebs didn’t get much schooling due to poor family background however, they still speak very good English and learned many skills when they are adults. I don’t know given the workload if C stars are able to do them same.

      3. My problem with Yibo is not whether he is illiterate or not, but it is due to him not even making effort to learn, understand and study his character in his movie, then prepare for a Press conference and be professional!! All these are all part of his job. I saw his interview and frankly, it was embarrassing.

      4. I cannot comment on any of these names but I confirm that so many of stars are barely literate. Younger stars simply do not want to invest time in improving in that sense, they do not see it as relevant skill. Of course there are those totally different. Some would even hire people to read script to them as they struggle with reading. There will be also assistant for character development, historic screening etc depending on the role. Lack of willingness to invest in basic education is shockingly high and not related to poor financial background. Of course some, specially older generation, are so impressive and that makes difference even more visible. Somehow I believe that actors get better as they are educated. Musicians on the other hand to not have to dig deep in psychology, history and character development.

      5. @Dee Personally, I feel it does not matter how educated artists are…. because it is still possible to do well in their job thru hardwork and dedication. From remembering their lines, to understanding their characters, to homing their acting skills and being professional during interviews etc..

It is just unfortunate, there seem to be artists who cannot even be bothered to dedicate their effects to do so…

      6. @Dee In general, do you find young actors who have graduated from acting school better than those that didn’t, in trying to interpret a character and script literacy? I know this doesn’t apply to everyone, but just an overall impression?

      7. @PotatoChip my personal impression and limited to my experience, I would say yes those coming from Academy are better educated and better prepared for work on the set, more reliable as well. If I can chose I would always go for Academy people than those with high social media presence. Many directors would go for hot name as their fandoms will digest anything, those are tough to work with as they are also involved in many projects at the same time which makes it difficult to jump from one role to another. I understand that they are using the moment and building on their fame but still with lack of educational background, not investing time in improving it, busy schedules, focus on being celebrity rather than becoming an actor, it does not get easier for them and those around.

      1. @Hohliu Rumours are flying everywhere so that is one version. Some are even commenting him to be KW 2.0 (which personally, I think it’s too much since there has not been any evidence so far suggesting he has done with KW had).

  6. @Coralie Liu Haochun. She has discovered by Zhang Yimou and acted in movies, don’t think there is any drama yet.
Based on the clip I saw, it seems that (anyone who read the article or knows more, please correct me if I am wrong) the reference was made to artists’ interviews. Not saying that they have to be very articulate but interviews of those speculated artists had left an impression in a wrong way, that they did not know their job well (e.g. the role they play, discuss what an actor is about). Before this article, there was negative feedback of ZLS’s performance in Hu Tong and in the interview of the same show, she could not quite talk about the character she was playing and mentioned the date wrongly of an important Chinese historical event. There was also another interview about something else of hers (cannot remember). Since I didn’t watch those interviews, anyone who did could also point out if it was a fair assessment.

    1. @BearBear gotcha thanks! I read up a little bit more on the issue and they literally mean literacy lol – how much the actors have read on the roles they’re playing (background, history, etc.)

I read ZLS got the era wrong for the role she was playing…but I feel as long as she can act the role properly…does knowing the background really matter? It’s a nice to have; her portrayal is based almost entirely on the director anyways, so why is there such a big focus on literacy? It’s embarrassing to be wrong, but it’s not like she can’t portray the role correctly. Literacy is an entirely diff thing from acting…

      1. @Coralie I don’t see why getting the date wrong should be such a grave sin but then citizens (or is it only netizens) there seem to be more nationalistic and react strongly on such. However unable to share thoughts about the roles they play seem to say that they do not care and unwillingly to put in efforts.
I do wonder if artists are forced to take on project after project without any rest or break (and finding time to understand the characters) and they will be heavily penalized if they refuse to take any project or it is the choice of theirs and their management agency to earn the most money in the shortest time.

      2. @BearBear “Artists are forced to take on project after project without any rest or break” for some definitely worth a thought. But in Yibo’s movie case, he lack of knowledge , interest and professionalism is just too obvious to be ignored.
But I believe your comment does have some truth in them.

  7. I actually just finished his Lighter Princess series and thought he was ok. Wow, just gotten a bit hot and now it’s get cooler? haha lol….How unfortunate!! Fans are so funny and crazy, did they think he’s a virgin or something? haha lol….And I remember my aunt’s used to love Raymond Lam didn’t he also had a sleeping GF at the time and did the same thing? These women use the same selfie tactics to expose them or something? Oh boy!!! Guess it never gets old as long as it works. Shameless women. Sigh….

  8. @m0m0 agree, those who were less educated due to financial circumstances when young should not be faulted. Wonder if you and I have watched the same clip lol

  9. @Hohliu Yes, I too think the article main purpose was to point out the lack of dedication and respect towards the job that gives them very high earnings. There are other artists with limited or little education but they work hard and either well respected or well liked.
I still remember Jackson Wang explaining why he has not thought of venturing into acting due to his proficiency in Mandarin and WYB reacted by telling him that he can act in period dramas because there is always voice over. Whatever view I may have for Jackson Wang, kudos to him for being respectful to the acting profession and at that time, I wonder if acting is only a quick source of good money and fame for WYB.
