Mat Yeung Has No Plans To Stop Drinking

In August, TVB actor Mat Yeung (楊明) crashed his vehicle into a stone curb and nearly knocked down a traffic sign. Refusing to take a breathalyzer, Mat was arrested on the spot with suspicions of DUI. It would be his second DUI charge; his first occurred in 2005.

Charged with three counts of misdemeanors, Mat made his first court appearance on November 6. The hearing was rescheduled to December to allow time for the defendant to collect witness testimonies and a medical report.

Despite his court appearance, Mat is still working as schedule. He is currently busy with the filming of TVB’s My Family Has No Hardships <我家無難事> alongside Joe Ma (馬德鐘). In media interviews, Mat stated that while he is concerned about his upcoming court appearance, going to work helps him relieve stress.

Mat expressed his regret  for crashing into a historical landmark. He will be charged $5,000 Hong Kong dollars for the incident. He hopes the landmark can be restored.

Asking if he would quit drinking, Mat admitted that he won’t, expressing alcohol isn’t a recreational drug. He further clarified that he was never charged for DUI. That was only claims made by the media. He stressed that the incident in August was considered a traffic accident.

  1. Wonder how many more chances TVB will give him? He’s obviously an alcoholic and needs help.

  2. He clearly lacks major self awareness and TVB should stop wasting time on him. He’s not even a good actor

  3. If he wasnt charged with dui what was he charged with? Misdemeanors over what? He is an alcoholic. He is also in denial. And tvb is a hypocrite. They dont need matt yeung.

  4. I admit I am bias against this dude but the way he says “alcohol isn’t a recreational drug” makes me think he would do a lot more than just alcohol if the opportunity arose.
This guy doesn’t deserve to make it big, evidently, yet tvb keeps propping him up.

  5. It is funny how comments are based on sensationalies write-up and condemnation posted like anyone has the right to do so when he wasn’t even found guilty. This is how society can destroy someone’s life. Just watch out karma!

  6. Not sure if he really is an alcoholic. Just seems to me to be, one, a little irresponsible (not to have stayed off the road after a few drinks) and two, a bit entitled as his rich girlfriend seems to have the means and connections (she arranged for a hotshot barrister to deal with this) to get him out of trouble each time.

  7. Not expecting him to stop drinking entirely, but to drink responsibly and not drive afterwards. As someone who also enjoys my fair amount of drinking back when I was younger, I drove a few too many times under the influence. Luckily, nothing ever happened. But as I grew up, I realized that it was cuz I got lucky all those times. So I stopped immediately. You can’t push luck like that. It only takes 1 time to lose your own life or to ruin someone else’s. What he needs to do is to learn to be responsible and just call a taxi from now on.

  8. I personally feel media likes to make stories but if it is a real case then this artist really deserves for justice. Lucky NO other people get injured. Matt’s hardwork will be gone. TVB will need to open the freezer again. …..
