Karena Ng Replaces Her Meals with Smoothies

To connect with fans, Karena Ng (吳千語) has started streaming on her social platform to share skincare tips and give fans a glimpse of her daily life. Known for her slim figure, Karena resorted to exercising at home and following a strict diet to maintain her figure after her gym closed. As fans watched and interacted with Karena during her stream, they soon discovered that it takes a lot of effort to achieve her figure.

Breakfast

Karena started her day at 8 a.m. by washing and massaging her face before changing to her athletic wear for three sets of simple yoga stretches. For breakfast, Karena would only have a cup of fruit smoothie.

Afternoon Snack

After lunch, Karena made her way to the yard for more exercises. While Karena’s workout was the focus of her stream, some fans watched with envy over the size of her yard and joked that they want Karena’s yard more than they want to have a body like hers. In reply, Karena clarified that the yard does not belong to her.

At 4:30 p.m., Karena’s afternoon snack or “tea time” was another powdered shake with water.

Dinner

For her dinner, Karena mixed powdered pumpkin with oatmeal and water. She claims that the combination is very “filling”.

Fans pointed out that Karena replaced her her meals with smoothies and oatmeal shakes and questioned if it was adequate for her active lifestyle. While fans realized that it is not easy to obtain Karena’s figure, some complimented her strong self-discipline and others lamented that they will starve and if they follow her regime. Karena responded to her fans and said that she would regularly eat lunch and would eat full meals if she has work.

  1. I would definitely starve if I ate like Karena. Her smooth is also pre-packaged without the nutrients from fresh fruits. Having a smoothie for breakfast is pretty common, but not replacing major meals throughout the day. It seems that she does this frequently at home, unless she has to step outside for work.

you would get used to it. it take two weeks but by no means that her meals are healthy or nutritious. she might be okay since she’s still relatively young but it would cause major stress to her system when she gets a bit older like rashes, skin issues, hair loss and other autoimmune diseases.

      1. @m0m0 also shows her metabolism is not that fast. I know someone who eats like a horse ( all day long and skinnier than her). If that’s all she eats now to keep that size she will need to restrict more as shes older.

      2. @m0m0 I’m sure there health and autoimmune issues may emerge later with the way Karena eats. Even if she’s calorie counting, is it that hard to fix a salad especially since most ingredients can be purchased prewashed?

      3. @jayne Even if she was getting nutrition: such as following juicing fads and extracting nutrients from vegetables…It’s not good for long term use…By not using your teeth to chew food you risk having sunken jaw bone in the future…. It’s a known fact that if you don’t use something you lose it…Applies even to bone structures such as our jaws… Such as gaining muscle after working out and then stopping the workout and losing all that work… No one should do this to themselves…

      4. @lise the powdered smoothie is considered an easy dieting food for many people. It’s a 5 min prep meal…but the side effect of sunken jaw bone is not something that would cross most people’s minds.

Staying home during Covid-19 should be a wakeup call for people to eat more nutritious food and maintain their health.

@megamiaow I love smoothies, but for them to taste good, there’s a lot of sugar. I have them once in a while, but agree long term they’re not very healthy.

      5. @jayne Salad will have even less calories but Im guessing it wont be filling enough. Using oats etc is filling enough to suppress appetite and last you till the next “meal” of another delicious drink.

Im not a smoothie fan. Usually it uses ingredients full of sugar. I have tried slimfast way back before, and I got so hungry in between meals. Gave up after about 2 weeks lol.

Super models do this. They also exercise like an athlete. You really got to be determined other than it makes you look good to keep doing it.

      7. @megamiaow Fastest way for me to lose weight is to go carbs free. Basically I eat the same food as I normally do; just without the carbs.

Those Kpop idols have a diet like that but have to dance hard with weights on their legs. I bet their long term health will suffer a lot. They are forced to in order to maintain their bodies and image as an idol sadly. In Karena’s case, no one is forcing her but she is doing it to herself which is the sad part.

  2. I think her whole day of “meals” is what I have for just breakfast. I’m not skinny, 5’3, 127 but not big.

  3. Not healthy. I’m in my 30s and when I don’t eat or drink enough, i look like a dry prune :/

have you looked into muscles building? that might help with you.

lack of nutrition really catches up w/ you regardless of age. it is not showing now but could up after years of abuse. wasn’t there a teen who ate only junk food lost his eye sight. some mom was talking to me about her teen daughter eating only junk food, she is starting to develop lupus symptoms. haven’t talked to her recently but her daughter was getting tested.

      1. @m0m0 Autoimmmune conditions are caused mostly by not having enough gut bacteria (itself caused by not getting enough fibre to feed gut bacteria…no amount of probiotics can replace feeding our native gut bacteria with fibre (and not just once a day)…

  4. I wouldn’t call lack of fibre lack of nutrition but definitely unless you’re taking fibre supplements, by increasing fibre you are increasing nutrients…

  5. That’s called being hungry all the time. Even her fans know they would be starving. She needs natural foods like more vegetable and meat, not powdered shakes. She should be ashamed of herself for publicizing this terrible diet.

I agree and hope no one is influenced by her and skips and replaces their meals with just unhealthy shakes. That is sad.
