TVB Reshuffles Broadcasting Schedule; Jacqueline Wong’s Drama May Air This Year

After Jacqueline Wong’s (黃心穎) cheating scandal in April, her image was ruined and the actress left for Los Angeles. Several of Jacqueline’s dramas were shelved without a clear broadcasting date. However, due to the current protests and sensitive political climate in Hong Kong, TVB has been strategically choosing dramas to air that would not provoke any viewers. As a result, Jacqueline’s Finding Her Voice <牛下女高音> may have a chance to air soon.

Public resentment against police forces have been strong lately due to their clashes with pro-democracy protesters, and TVB decided to postpone the airing of Death By Zero <殺手> and Airport Strikers <機場特警> which center around police and triad topics. With the lack of suitable dramas to air, Finding Her Voice, a light-hearted family drama, is rumored to be put back in the broadcasting lineup despite Jacqueline leading the drama.

This may seen like an erratic decision, given how TVB had gone to extreme measures to erase all of Jacqueline’s scenes in Forensic Heroes 4 <法證先鋒IV> and later re-filmed them with Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯). TVB incurred additional production costs for the drama, and also lost money with Jacqueline’s dropped endorsement ads after her scandal.

TVB probably realised that cheating scandals are nothing compared to the sensitive political situation….

Infidelity is more acceptable than rioting, violence, and terrorism themes caused by pro-independence groups.

Jacqueline lucked out. HK citizens have bigger concerns to focus one. Their righteous anger towards her has been directed elsewhere.
